Riyan Parag missed the last game for RR due to hamstring injury.
After getting off to a great start with four wins in the first four matches, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) gave a few weak performances as they lost their grip on the top four in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 points table. Currently fifth in the points table, the inaugural champions have 12 points from 11 games, with six wins and five losses.
Thus, their upcoming clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, May 17, becomes crucial for their qualification to the playoffs. In their last game against DC this season, RR lost by 7 wickets. Batting first, the Royals posted a total of 225, courtesy of stellar performances by captain Riyan Parag and Donavan Ferreira. However, their efforts were in vain as DC completed the chase with five deliveries remaining.
During their last game against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Royals endured a disappointing 77-run defeat. Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande bowled with an economy of 15 and 13, respectively, while the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shimron Hetmyer and Donovan Ferreira failed to steer the team in batting.
Jaiswal was leading the RR against the Titans because Riyan Parag missed the fixture due to a hamstring issue. However, ahead of the 62nd match of the 2026 IPL, the inaugural champions have received a huge relief.

Riyan Parag is set to return for the Rajasthan Royals during their IPL clash against the Delhi Capitals. The RR skipper missed the inaugural champions’ previous game against the Gujarat Titans on May 9 due to a hamstring issue.
However, Parag was seen batting comfortably in the nets in the pre-match practice. The 24-year-old has recovered from the hamstring problem and is set to take the captain’s armband again.
In 10 matches this season, Parag has scored 207 runs with a strike rate of 143 while maintaining an average of 23. The 24-year-old has scored only one half-century this season, which came against the DC on May 1.
With the departure of Sanju Samson from the Royals on a swap deal, Parag was given the captaincy of the inaugural champions over the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how effective the decision turns out to be in the ongoing season.
