Will Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma remain part of Grade A+ contract after test retirement? BCCI secretary answers

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are part of the Indian Cricket Team only in ODIs.
Two great batsmen of the Indian Cricket Team said goodbye to Test cricket this month. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bid goodbye to the red-ball format. Both players will only represent the national team in ODIs from henceforth. They also retired from the T20I format last year in June.
Notably, Sharma and Kohli were named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in their annual central contracts last month. BCCI named a total of 34 players in their annual contracts. They are divided into four Grades: A+, A, B, and C.
Both Sharma and Kohli are part of the highest Grade A+. Hence, they also get the highest yearly salary of INR 7 crore. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are the other two members of the Grade A+ category in BCCI contracts.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will retain their Grade A+ contract
On Wednesday, May 14, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that Sharma and Kohli will retain their Grade A+ contract despite their test retirement.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s grade A+ contract will continue despite their retirement from the T20Is and Tests. They are still part of the Indian cricket team, and they will get all the facilities of Grade A+,” Saikia said to ANI.
Sharma, who led India in Tests, played 67 matches for India. He slammed 4301 runs at an average of 40.58. He also slammed 12 tons with a top knock of 212 against South Africa.
Kohli featured in 123 tests and mustered 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. He hammered 30 tons in the red-ball format, including seven double centuries. His top knock of 254 came against South Africa in 2019.
Meanwhile, Sharma and Kohli will next be seen in the national jersey during the ODI series against Bangladesh in August 2025. They are currently busy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which is scheduled to restart on May 17. Sharma plays for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025.
