"I wouldn't have played anymore," Rohit Sharma reveals his disaster period in Cricket
Despite scoring 2 centuries in 2010, Rohit Sharma was not picked for the WC 2011 squad.
When we talk about Rohit Sharma in International cricket, we will have two different phases to discuss. One was before 2013 when he was getting his opportunity to bat in the middle order from 3 to 8 and was inconsistent. Another will be after 2012 when MS Dhoni gave him a go as an opener against England in Mohali. This innings changed his career completely and since then he has become a star for Indian Cricket. After making his debut in 2007, Rohit Sharma was inconsistent yet a member of the squad in most of the series. But he was dropped from the 2011 World Cup squad due to a poor show with the bat. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has now opened up about his ‘disaster’ period in cricket.
Rohit reveals his disappointment after 2011 WC snub
Then a middle-order batter Rohit Sharma was dropped from the World Cup 2011 squad due to his poor performances and inconsistency. After the decision, Rohit thought that his ‘life is on edge’ and that without making any changes he might not play anymore. In a chat with Jio Cinema, Rohit revealed, “I had to make a lot of changes then or I knew I would not have played cricket anymore, I knew that my life is on the edge, If I don’t perform or If I don't do certain things this can lead up to a disaster. Then I would have nowhere to go ”. Rohit had a decent 2010 with the bat and he also smashed two ODI centuries that year but his inconsistency came in the way. Rohit had a poor tour of South Africa just before the World Cup.
'I didn't watch the World Cup'
The current Indian captain also admitted that he did not watch the World Cup till India qualified for the semifinals. He said, “Honestly, I didn’t watch the World Cup itself except the semis against Pakistan and Final against Sri Lanka because I was so disappointed that I didn’t want to watch, every time I put the TV on I felt that I could have been there, what went wrong and stuff like that”. Rohit also said that he had only himself to blame for this. Indian Team went on to win the World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka in the final at Wankhede Stadium. This was India’s only second World Cup title victory.
One of the greatest comebacks!
The year 2013 was a turnaround one for Rohit Sharma.
