Delhi Capitals have retained five players ahead of the WPL 2026 mega auction.

The much-awaited announcement has been made, and all five franchises have revealed the list of released and retained players ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction. Delhi Capitals (DC) are one of the two teams who retained five players as they will be eyeing their maiden title next year.

Despite making three consecutive final appearances under the captaincy of Meg Lanning, they are yet to get their hands on the trophy. So, there will be a lot of expectations from the team going ahead into the fourth edition. The franchise has retained the core group and is ready to get into the next edition with some new faces and a new captain.

Delhi Capitals finished as runners-up in WPL 2025

After making it to the finals of the first two editions, DC entered WPL 2025 as top contenders. That is what they did during the league stage, finishing at the top with five wins out of eight games and making a direct entry to the final, which was against Mumbai Indians.

They had a good bowling display in the final, restricting MI to 149. But they had a tough start with the bat, and they kept losing wickets. They fell short by eight runs, losing their third consecutive final. Shefali Verma was the top scorer with 304 runs, while Jess Jonaseen was the leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets.

The three-time finalists have retained five players, including one uncapped player. The biggest surprise is that they released their captain, Meg Lanning, as there were only two slots available for overseas retentions.

South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp and Australia’s Annabel Sutherland were their overseas retentions for DC, while Jemimah Rodrigues and Shefali Verma were the two capped Indian retentions, along with uncapped Niki Prasad.

DC released 13 players in total and have 13 slots available ahead of the WPL 2026 mega auction. Four out of the five retentions were from the top bracket, which cost them a total of INR 9.3 crores. Hence, they are left with 5.7 crores to complete their squad at the WPL 2026 mega auction to be held in Delhi on November 27.
