Wriddhiman Saha featured in 40 test matches for India.

Veteran Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha has confirmed that the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season will be his last domestic tournament, at the end of which he will retire from domestic and international cricket.

The 40-year-old Saha made this decision public through a social media post on November 3rd.

Saha made his domestic debut for Bengal in 2007 and played all seasons except the last two for his home state. In the last two domestic seasons, he turned up for Tripura in a player-mentor role.

Wriddhiman Saha played 40 tests for India from 2010 to 2021 and nine ODIs between 2010 and 2014. Despite being hailed as the best wicket-keeper in the country in the 2010s, Saha couldn’t find a cemented spot in India’s test XI because of the presence of MS Dhoni first and then the arrival of Rishabh Pant.

While his glovework was second to none in India, the lack of consistent contributions with the bat saw him being replaced by Pant. In 40 tests, he scored 1353 runs at an average of 29 with three centuries and six fifties.

Wriddhiman Saha retirement post:

In his retirement post on social media, Saha wrote, “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!”

Saha won’t be featuring in the white-ball domestic tournaments. He is also unlikely to put his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

He has featured in all IPL seasons since the inaugural edition in 2008. Saha played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. He hit a century for Punjab in the 2014 final, which they lost to KKR. But, Saha won the IPL title with Gujarat in 2022.
