Yashasvi Jaiswal recently became the sixth Indian men’s cricketer to hit centuries in all three international formats.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was a member of the ICC T20 World Cup-winning team last year but has not been included in India’s T20I preparations, gave a powerful reminder of his skill in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. In his second game back in the local T20 tournament, Jaiswal scored an incredible century.
The 23-year-old is not included in India’s T20I squad for the ongoing series against South Africa. He might not play in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026. However, Jaiswal may have to take a lengthy hiatus from international cricket as Shubman Gill and the rest of the group aren’t expected to play any red-ball matches until August of next year.
Despite being a well-known player at the top of India’s test order, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been receiving infrequent opportunities in white-ball cricket. He hasn’t played a T20I since July of last year, although he traveled with the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team as a backup opener behind Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Speaking at a recent function, Jaiswal said that he still has high hopes of competing in the forthcoming home T20 World Cup. He is not now part of India’s T20I plans, though, since Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Shubman Gill are thought to be the best opening choices.
“My dream is to play T20 World Cup but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time,” Jaiswal had said during the ‘Agenda Aaj Tak’ conclave.
Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 101 as Mumbai chase down 234 runs against Haryana in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20
On Sunday, December 14, Yashasvi Jaiswal performed a fantastic knock for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Pune. He started the innings with a century that gave his team total control while chasing a lofty goal of 235.
Earlier, Haryana had made 234/3, thanks to 89 by captain Ankit Kumar and 63 by Nishant Sindhu. Samant Jakhar’s 14-ball 31 and Arsh Ranga’s 26 were also vital contributions to the score.
Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered 101 in 50 balls with 16 fours and one six, leading the chase. Sarfaraz Khan made 64 in 25 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes, while Atharva Ankolekar smashed a six and a four to ensure Mumbai won the game by 4 wickets in the 18th over.
With Shubman Gill struggling with the bat in T20Is since T20 Asia Cup 2025, the BCCI selectors would like to let go of their stubbornness and pick Jaiswal for the T20Is against New Zealand, ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
What is Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20I record for India?
Yashasvi Jaiswal has so far played 23 T20Is for India, in which, he has scored 723 runs with his highest score being 100.
