Yashasvi Jaiswal was India’s leading run-scorer in the BGT 2024-25.

It has been a bittersweet few months for young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The southpaw starred for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Australia, scoring 391 runs across three tests, including one century and two half-centuries.

More good news followed for Jaiswal as he was surprisingly named in India’s provisional squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and received his maiden ODI cap in the first ODI of England’s tour of India 2025 in Nagpur.

However, he was later dropped from the final squad to make room for extra spinner in Varun Chakravarthy. His exclusion has raised questions about the squad planning by the Indian management and the lack of clarity heading into the ICC event.

A day before the Ranji Trophy semi-finals, recent reports have suggested another blow for Jaiswal.

According to a recent report in Times of India, Jaiswal has been ruled out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semi-final clash against Vidarbha, scheduled to begin on Monday, February 17.

The reason for his exclusion is reported to be ankle pain. He was also named as non-travelling reserve for India for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but now he will leave for the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence tomorrow to begin his recovery process.

Jaiswal has been ruled out of the Ranji Trophy semifinal clash as he is suffering from a left ankle pain. He fielded in Mumbai’s practice session today at Nagpur but looked uncomfortable while batting in the nets. It is an old injury which has recurred. He has to leave for the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence tomorrow to start the recovery process.” A source told the Times of India.

The Indian management will closely monitor his recovery as he will be integral to the team for their England test tour scheduled in June.
