Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 on his test debut against West Indies at Dominca.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's father, Bhupendra Jaiswal revealed that the India opener gave him a call at around 4:30 AM in the morning during the Dominica Test and the two cried after the left-hander’s brilliant debut century helped India win by an innings and 141 runs to go 1-0 up in two Tests series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal became only the 17th Indian and 115th overall batter to score a century on Test debut and broke Mohammed Azharuddin’s record for most balls faced on Test debut- 387. He also made the second-highest score by an Indian debutant opener after Shikhar Dhawan’s 187.

The Indian opener stitched a record-breaking stand of 229 runs for the opening wicket with skipper Rohit Sharma, who also made his 10th century.

Jaiswal, who used to sell 'panipuri' for pocket money, often ate and slept with groundsmen near Azad Maidan while he was struggling to make it big after moving from Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai to seek a better life and make it big as a cricketer.

He just asked me 'Are you happy, father?: Bhupendra Jaiswal on his video call with Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s father runs a small shop back in Bhadohi and his family barely made ends meet. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Jaiswal's father revealed that the India opener gave him a call at around 4:30 AM in the morning during the Dominica Test.

"He called around 4:30 am in the morning (IST) after scoring his century (Day 2). He couldn't hold back his tears. I cried too. It was a very emotional moment. He could not talk for a long time. He was tired. He just asked me 'Are you happy, father?'," said Jaiswal's father Bhupendra, who has a small paint shop in Bhadohi.

The India opener is the fifth-youngest batsman to hit a 150 on their Test cricket debut at the age of 21 years and 196 days. He is the eighth Indian to score a century on their Test debut while playing abroad.
