Yashasvi Jaiswal has been an important member for India in Test cricket.

Ever since his Test debut in 2023 against the West Indies, Yashasvi Jaiswal has risen to quick fame as a versatile opener in the longest format of the game. Jaiswal has often been considered one of the future all-format stars of world cricket. 

Jaiswal’s success has truly been inevitable in the format; with his aggressive strokeplay and ability to score massive double centuries, the Indian opener’s early career has been defined by high-scoring innings. However, like most other opening batters, he has often struggled against the new ball. 

Openers are considered to have faced the toughest phase of a Test innings, as they have to counter the early zip, carry and excessive seam movement that comes with a new ball. Jaiswal too has been dismissed for a ducks on many occasions his Test career. 

During the ongoing Test between India and Sri Lanka at Galle, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck during India’s second innings. It occurred on Day 4 of the First Test when Asitha Fernando dismissed the left-hander on the third ball of the innings.   

Playing the 30th Test match of his career, Jaiswal has opened for India in 56 innings. After his recent duck against Sri Lanka, Jaiswal now has seven ducks in Test cricket alongside his seven centuries in the format.

1. 0 (7) vs South Africa, 2024

During the second Test against South Africa, the young Indian opener was dismissed for a duck for the first time in his career. He was cleaned up by Proteas legend Kagiso Rabada during the first innings of the second Test in Cape Town.

2. 0 (8) vs Australia, 2024

Jaiswal’s second duck of his career came in his first-ever tour to Australia. His first innings on Australian soil ended in total dismay as he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for a duck. 

3. 0 (1) vs Australia 2024

After having scored a duck in the first innings at Perth, Yashasvi Jaiswal led India’s heroic comeback in the First Test with a massive 161. However, Starc trapped him right in front of the three stumps during the first innings of the second Test. 

4. 0 (7) vs England, 2025

In his Lord’s debut, Jaiswal ended up scoring another duck during India’s tragic fall, leading to a humiliating defeat at the iconic venue. Jaiswal was dismissed by fellow Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer. 

5. 0 (4) vs England, 2025

Another duck followed in the very next Test match against England at Manchester, when Jaiswal was dismissed for a four-ball duck by Chris Woakes. 

6. 0 (4) vs South Africa, 2025

During South Africa’s tour of India, Jaiswal was once again dismissed for a duck by Marco Jansen in the second innings of the Eden Gardens Test. Jaiswal’s early dismissal eventually led to India’s defeat in the First Test. 

7. 0 (3) vs Sri Lanka, 2026

Sri Lankan pacer Fernando dismissed him for a duck in the second innings of the first Test at Galle. Jaiswal now has ducks against four opposition teams.
