India's tour of West Indies 2023
This is one emotional knock for me asserts Yashasvi Jaiswal after scoring century on test debut

Jaiswal is only the third Indian opener to score a ton on Test debut after Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made the most of the opportunity as he converted his good start in the ongoing first Test against West Indies at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica, into a brilliant hundred on his debut.
India had bowled out West Indies in the first innings for just 150 after Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and chose to bat first. Debutant Alick Athanaze scored 47, while Ravichandran Ashwin picked 5/60, and Ravindra Jadeja picked three wickets for India.
In reply, India ended day 1 on 80/0 with Jaiswal on 40* and Rohit Sharma on 30*.
On day two, things got difficult for Indian batters as the pitch drastically slowed up. However, Jaiswal scored his debut fifty in 104 balls and then went on to hit his maiden century on Test debut in 215 balls.
Talking about his knock at the end of day two, Yashasvi Jaiswal said, "I think this is one of the emotional knocks for me. It's difficult to get opportunities in the Indian team. I would like to thank everyone: the supporters, team management, and Rohit Bhai. The pitch is on the slower side, and the outfield is very slow. It was difficult and challenging. It was pretty hot, and I wanted to keep doing it for my country, just play ball-by-ball and enjoy my cricket."
"I love Test cricket. I like this challenge," said Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal became the 17th Indian, only the 3rd Indian opener, and the overall 115th batter to score a century on his Test debut. Apart from him, only Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw were the two openers from India to score centuries on their Test debuts, and Dhawan still holds the record for the highest score by an Indian in his first Test as he made 187 against Australia.
The 21-year-old is also the second youngest Indian to score a debut Test ton, after Prithvi Shaw, who was 18 when he scored his ton in his first Test against West Indies in 2018.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal said that he loved Test cricket and enjoyed the challenge of a five-day game.
"I love Test cricket. I like this challenge. I enjoy the situation when the ball swings and seams. We have worked hard on everything. I've just gone out to express myself. It was an emotional moment (on his century). I was just proud of myself and thankful for everyone. This is just a start, and I want to do well going further," he added.
Jaiswal’s partner Rohit Sharma also hit his 10th Test ton, scoring 103 before getting out. India lost Shubman Gill for 6 but ended day one on 312/2 with Jaiswal on 143* and Kohli on 36*.
