Yashasvi Jaiswal has been picked as back-up opener for the ODI series against Australia.
Indian Cricket Team are gearing up for the second ODI against Australian Cricket Team, scheduled to be played on October 23 (Thursday) at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Ahead of the clash, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen having a long conversation with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
Notably, Jaiswal was not picked in the playing XI for the opening ODI against Australia, which the Men in Blue lost by seven wickets. The opening slot has been reserved for the new ODI captain Shubman Gill and former skipper Rohit Sharma. Both of them have been opening for India in 50-over cricket since last couple of years.
Since making his international debut in 2023, Jaiswal has impressed with his batting skills as an opener in tests and T20Is. However, in the current scenario, he has been on the sidelines in ODIs in the presence of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Ahead of the second ODI, some Indian players turned up for the optional training session and Jaiswal was one of them. He was spotted batting in the nets and bowling a few overs with his part-time leg spin.
In a video posted by Revzsportz on YouTube, Jaiswal was seen having a long conversation with head coach Gambhir and chief selector Agarkar ahead of the do-or-die clash. In the video, Gambhir was seen trying to convey his point with gestures, while Jasiwal was seen nodding in return.

Meanwhile, the second ODI between India and Australia will take place on Thursday, October 23 at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. The visitors are 1-0 down in the series after losing the opening game by seven wickets.
Jaiswal, who has played only one ODI in his career so far, is expected to remain out of the playing XI in the second game too. However, with him coming up for the optional training session and Rohit failing with the bat in the opening game, he might be considered for the next clash.
