Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Mumbai debut in 2019.

In a shocking move, talented opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has reportedly decided to quit the Mumbai team in Indian domestic cricket and is planning to move to Goa. He wants to play for his new team from the next Ranji Trophy season onwards.

Despite hailing from the Uttar Pradesh hamlet of Bhadohi, Jaiswal has a deep emotional bond with Mumbai, where he has played cricket his whole career.

Before being chosen for the Mumbai senior squad, he first attracted notice by placing highly in the Harris Shield, an inter-school competition for Under-16s. He then went on to play brilliantly for the Mumbai Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 teams.

The majority of the Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 3712 First-Class (FC) cricket runs, which include 12 hundreds and 12 fifties, have come in 36 games for Mumbai since his FC debut against Chhattisgarh at the Wankhede Stadium in January 2019.

His stellar performances for Mumbai in domestic cricket earned him a spot on the Indian national team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal wrote to MCA seeking an NOC to move from Mumbai to Goa

In an email sent to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday, Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch his cricket state team from Mumbai to Goa for the upcoming season.

“He has sought an NOC from us and has cited that the reason for his move to Goa as personal,” a source in the MCA confirmed.

Jaiswal intends to relocate from Mumbai to Goa, according to persons close to him who were interviewed by The Indian Express.

Following the Indian board’s directive for players to play domestic games in the event of no international matches, Jaiswal played for Mumbai the previous season. He scored four and twenty-six in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir while playing for Mumbai.

Officials from the Goa Cricket Association also verified the development. Jaiswal will play for Goa in the upcoming season, according to their conversation with him.

“The paperwork is yet to be completed, but we have agreed to bring him on board for next season. His experience will be helpful for the team, but we have not decided on whether he will be the captain for the season. There’s still time. Once he signs, we will discuss it internally and decide on that,” GCA secretary Shamba Naik Dessai told Sportstar.

Given that Goa have only recently been promoted to the Elite Group after playing in the Plate Division, Jaiswal’s choice is unexpected.
