Yashasvi Jaiswal averaged 54.7 in test cricket in 2024.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had a breakout year in test cricket in 2024. The Indian opener scored 1478 runs in tests in 2024 at an average of 54.7.
Jaiswal began the year with a quiet tour of South Africa but went on a run-charting spree in the five-match home test series against England. The southpaw scored 712 runs in the series, including two double centuries.
He then had a hot and cold home test season against Bangladesh and New Zealand, scoring four half-centuries in five tests but failing to convert his starts into big scores. His highest score during the home season was 77 runs, which came against New Zealand in Pune.
The 23-year-old batter was one of the few Indian batsmen who looked comfortable during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Jaiswal scored 391 runs in 10 innings, including a match-winning 161-run knock in Perth.
The underwhelming performances of the Indian batsman in test cricket have sparked discussions about them participating in domestic red-ball matches when they don’t have international commitments.
Mumbai will take on Jammu and Kashmir on January 23 as they resume their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 campaign. The team is currently third in Group C behind Karnataka and Punjab.
BCCI orders Yashasvi Jaiswal to train with the Mumbai team
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has instructed Jaiswal to report to Mumbai. He will now train with the Mumbai team at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) from Wednesday.
His participation in Mumbai’s next game against J&K on January 23 is uncertain yet and will only be confirmed by February 20, when the Mumbai squad is selected.
India’s next test series is after the IPL, when the team will tour England for a five-match test series. The Asian giants will hope that the opener can replicate his performances against England at home during the upcoming tour as well.
