Indian Cricket Team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has opened up about his struggles and revealed how he used to stay in a tent during his childhood and assist people in selling pani puris.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the finest talents going in the world cricket currently. He has cemented his place in the Indian team with tests being his best format, where he has scored truckloads of runs. He first rose to the limelight in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and his heroics in the league earned him a place in the national team.
In July 2023, the left-handed batsman made his international debut in a test match against the West Indies. Smacking a century in his debut game, he announced his arrival at international stage in style. So far, he has played 25 tests, one ODI, and 23 T20Is in his career.

In a podcast with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Jaiswal opened up about his childhood days. He recalled that he used to live with his uncle for some time in Mumbai, but later got a chance to stay in a tent at a club.
“I used to stay with my uncle for some time, and then I got a chance to stay in a tent at a club called Muslim United. I had to play a game I wanted to excel at, and when I performed well, they offered me a place to stay,” he said.
He also said that people at the club were like his family, and he used to help them with cooking and earning money.
“The people there became my family. If they were cooking or needed help after practice, I would assist them to earn a little money. That was my life back then, and it taught me that no work is too small if you give it your 100 per cent,” he said.
The 23-year-old revealed that he engages in positive self-talk to stay focused and tries to control his aggression.
“I often talk to myself in the mirror for 10–15 minutes. It helps me stay focused. When I perform well, I make sure to applaud myself and get ready for the next challenge. I have aggression, but I always remind myself of what’s important for the team. You must control it- confidence is essential, but overconfidence can cost you,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal is currently busy in the ongoing test series against the West Indies. He scored 36 runs in the first test in Ahmedabad, which India won by an innings and 140 runs. The left-handed batter has been named in the ODI squad as well for the Australia tour.
