Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included in the 16-men India squad for the 2-match test series against West Indies.

Young Mumbai batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was ecstatic about his India call-up for the upcoming two-Test series in the West Indies which begins from July 12 onwards. India will also play three ODIs and five T20I matches as well.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was recently included as a backup player in the Indian squad for the WTC 2023 final at the Oval on the back of an amazing IPL 2023 where he scored 625 runs for Rajasthan Royals (RR) including a century and the fastest-ever half-century in IPL history.

In 15 first-class games, he averages 80.21 with nine hundreds.

He has been picked in place of Cheteshwar Pujara and though Jaiswal is an opener, he might very well play at no.3 spot for India, if he gets a chance.

“It’s a very good feeling. I need to keep my focus and keep doing what I am doing. I don’t know that much and where I will bat, but let’s see how it goes. I am really excited to go there and express myself.Of course, I am ready to do whatever the team needs (me to do) and I am just looking forward to it (the tour)," Jaiswal was quoted by Hindustan Times.

The 21-year-old is positive about adapting to any role the team management decides for him.

“It (season) was amazing with plenty of learning. I hope I will be doing things which went right, focus on the process and keep moving forward. It was a really nice experience (WTC 2023 final), had a nice time with the team,” he said.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav dropped from India Test squad for West Indies tour

The Indian team for the Test and ODI series in the Caribbean was selected by the BCCI selection committee, which was led by interim chief Shiv Sunder Das. Veteran players Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav were dropped, and Ajinkya Rahane was once again chosen as vice-captain.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad will help the batting, while Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini, whose last Test appearance for India was in Gabba in 2021, will help the Indian bowling, were also chosen by the selection committee as fresh faces.

The pacer attack will be led by Mohammed Siraj alongside Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat, replacing Mohammad Shami, who was rested for both the Test and ODI series.

India’s Test squad for West Indies tour:

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), KS Bharat (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, Navdeep Saini.
