Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his maiden T20I century in the Asian Games quarter-final against Nepal.

India’s young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has guided his team towards the semi-final of the Asian Games 2023 event in Hangzhou. Jaiswal scored a marvelous century against Nepal in the quarter-final game. He became the youngest batter to score a T20I century for India. Jaiswal’s innings helped India defeat Nepal and aim for a gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 men’s cricket event.

Jaiswal breaks Shubman Gill's record

Left-hand batter Jaiswal broke Shubman Gill’s record of being the youngest batter to score a century in T20I cricket. Yashasvi is currently 21 years and 279 days old. He scored 100 runs in 49 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes. Shubman Gill scored his maiden T20I century at 23 years and 146 days of age. Gill smashed a century against New Zealand in Ahmedabad earlier this year. Gill overtook Suresh Raina who scored his maiden T20I century at 23 years and 156 days of age.

Former Indian batter Suresh Raina smashed his maiden T20I century against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2010 in West Indies. Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut for India in July this year. Since then he has scored a test century and a T20I century in his 2 Tests and 6 T20I games. Jaiswal also had a magnificent IPL 2023 with Rajasthan Royals. Earlier he had slammed a ton against Mumbai Indians this season.

Opportunity for youngsters

Team India is looking to explore multiple options before the T20 World Cup in 2024. Youngsters have got the opportunity to put forward their case in the T20I squad. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team qualified for the semi-final and will take on the winner of quarter-final 4. Bangladesh will take on Malaysia in the quarter-final 4 on Wednesday. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh directly qualified for the quarter-final round due to their higher seeding.

Team India defeated Nepal by 23 runs. Nepal failed to chase down 203 runs in 20 overs. Team India with a stunning century from Yashasvi Jaiswal put 202 runs on the board. Rinku Singh (37 in 15 balls) also contributed immensely to the Indian score with his short cameo. Rinku smashed 4 sixes to take India over the 200 mark. Ravi Bishnoi (3/24) and Sai Kishore (1/25) bowled brilliantly against Nepal in the middle overs.
