Shubman Gill scored 269 runs in the first innings of the Edgbaston test.

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has taken a dig at Shubman Gill for missing a triple century in the ongoing second test against England. The second test of the five-match series between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team is underway at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Gill came up with a sensational batting effort in the ongoing game. In the first innings, he slammed a 269-run knock to power the team to a gigantic total of 587/10. In the second innings, the Indian skipper scored 161 runs to drive the scoreboard to 427/6d, helping his team set a massive target of 608 runs for England to chase.

With his two brilliant efforts in the ongoing match, he broke multiple batting records. With 430 runs across both innings, Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record of most runs scored by an Indian batsman in a test match. He also broke Virat Kohli’s record of the highest test score by an Indian captain. Moreover, his 269-run knock is the highest score by an Indian player in England.

Yograj Singh blasts Shubman Gill for missing triple century

While the cricket fraternity hailed Gill for his batting show in the Edgbaston test, Yograj Singh slammed him for missing his triple century. Yograj also criticised him for giving away his wicket with a poor shot in the first innings.

“A player’s hunger should never die. Just saying ‘I’ve scored 200’ or ‘I’ve made 250’, okay, well played, fine. But I never say ‘well played’. That’s your job, brother, but why did you get out?” Yograj was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

“Go make 300, then 350, even 400 — those will come too. But you have to try. My attitude is that getting out at any stage is a criminal offence, brother. How did you get out? Were you tired? Played a shot straight into someone’s hands?” he added.

“This player (Shubman) is really good, and maybe every Indian cricketer- all eleven- have come out of his training. So that’s a big thing for you, and for Shubman too. The hard work he’s put in over the last seven years is finally bearing fruit now,” Yograj further added.

Meanwhile, with Gill’s incredible batting show in both innings, India have gained a dominating position in the Edgbaston test. They set a massive target of 608 runs, and with the ball, they started the final innings brilliantly as they removed five English wickets for under 90 runs.
