Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won their second ICC Champions Trophy title on March 9.
On Sunday, March 9, India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final to clinch their seventh ICC title. The victory marked a special milestone for veteran batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who secured their respective second ICC Champions Trophy title and fourth ICC title overall.
Both senior batsmen made crucial contributions in the tournament. Kohli delivered a Player of the Match performance in the semi-final against Australia with a 84-run knock, while Rohit set the foundation for India’s 252-run chase in the final, scoring 76 off 83 balls.
After India’s victory, several rumors about the future of these senior players began circulating, with many suggesting that it may have been the last ODI appearance for both Rohit and Kohli.
However, Indian captain made it clear after the match that he isn’t going anywhere away from ODI cricket.
Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father and a former Indian cricketer himself, Yograj Singh has shared his thoughts on when the veteran duo should call time on their ODI careers.

Speaking to ANI, Yograj stated that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should focus on the 2027 ODI World Cup and channel their energies into winning the tournament. He emphasized, “No one can retire Virat and Rohit.”
He said, “The best thing is that Rohit Sharma said he is not retiring. Well done, my son. Nobody can retire Rohit and Virat. They should think about retirement after winning the 2027 ODI World Cup. I have said this before India would win.“
Earlier, Rohit Sharma confirmed that he will not be retiring from ODI cricket. However, he remained uncertain about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, stating that he has not thought about the distant future.
Virat Kohli is to reveal his future plans, but he has not discussed his ODI retirement either.
