IPL has groomed many young players.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a tournament in which young and experienced cricketers play for the same team on the same ground. All IPL teams keep a mixture of youngsters and veteran members in their squad to have a balanced strength across all three departments in batting, bowling, and fielding. Also, experienced veteran players guide youngsters to make a mark with their batting and bowling.

Every IPL season witnesses fresh faces across teams and debutants making an entry to the league. Sometimes, players are so young at the time of their debut that they become part of the tournament’s record books. Let’s take a look at the top five youngest cricketers to make their debut in the IPL.

5. Pradeep Sangwan – 17 years, 179 days

Pradeep Sangwan grabs the fifth spot on this list. The left-arm pacer made his debut in the first season of IPL 2008 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

He was part of the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the 20th match of the season and went wicketless in his four-over spell. His economy rate during the match was 10.0, and he proved to be a bit expensive.

4. Riyan Parag – 17 years, 152 days

Riyan Parag captures the fourth place on this list. The all-rounder made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2019 season in a clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

He scored 16 runs in the match but went wicketless later while bowling. RR suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of CSK at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

3. Mujeeb Ur Rahman – 17 years, 11 days

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman clinches the third position in the list of the top five youngest debutants in IPL. The right-arm spinner made his debut in the 2018 season against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

The off-spinner gave a wonderful performance in the match for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). The Afghan player picked two wickets for 28 runs during his four-over spell, registering an economy of 7.0. His team won the match by six wickets.

2. Prayas Ray Barman – 16 years, 157 days

Prayas Ray Barman bags the second spot. The right-handed batsman made his debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in a clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2019. RCB lost the game with a huge margin of 118 runs. Prayas Barman scored 19 runs in the match. Interestingly, it is his only game in the tournament to date.

1. Vaibhav Suryavanshi – 14 years, 23 days

Vaibhav Suryavanshi steals the top spot in the list of youngest debutants in the richest franchise league. The 14-year-old made his debut in IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and has scripted his name in the tournament’s record books.

Playing as an opener for RR in the match, the left-handed batsman smashed a six off his very first ball and scored 34 runs. Eventually, RR lost the encounter by two runs in the end despite an awesome start in batting.
