The wait for the International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy finally ended for South Africa as they beat Australia by five wickets in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final. The summit clash between the two teams took place at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from 11th to 14th June.
Under the leadership of Temba Bavuma, South Africa played a brilliant brand of cricket. Despite being down in the first innings, they made a dominating comeback in the second innings and won the game. They displayed a staggering batting and bowing effort.
After bundling out Australia for just 212 runs, South Africa were expected to take a big lead. But that wasn’t the case as they got all out for just 138 runs, conceding a lead of 74 runs. However, after that, they came up with another magical effort with the ball, ending the opposition’s innings for 207, setting themselves a target of 282 to chase.
In the chase, Aiden Markram shone with the bat as he played a brilliant innings of 136 runs. Skipper Temba Bavuma (66) also contributed with the half-century as South Africa chased the target with five wickets.
