Yuvraj Singh won the Player of the Tournament award in the 2011 World Cup.

India’s two World Cups winning superstar Yuvraj Singh has credited Virat Kohli for his comeback in the Indian national team. Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer and he had to go through a long treatment before making his comeback in the Indian team in late 2012. Yuvraj Singh got to know about the cancer after the 2011 World Cup. Yuvraj Singh after the England tour in 2011 took a break from the game to get the required treatment. Yuvraj was diagnosed with rare mediastinal seminoma cancer in the lungs. Yuvraj Singh played his last game for India in 2017 against West Indies. Yuvraj credited Virat Kohli for backing him up after the tough times as a captain.

Former Indian all-rounder said, “When I made my comeback, Virat Kohli supported me. If He has not backed me then I wouldn’t have made a comeback”. Yuvraj also thanked and credited former Indian captain MS Dhoni and said, “Then it was MS Dhoni who showed me the correct picture about the 2019 World Cup that selectors are not looking at you… He showed me a clear picture, and he gave me clarity. He did as much as he could”. After the 2011 World Cup, Singh played only 30 ODIs. He was given a longer run in the T20 format but Yuvraj lost his place in the ODI team and was also not picked for the 2015 World Cup.

Talking about his exclusion from the 2015 World Cup Yuvi said, “Till the 2011 World Cup MS Dhoni had a lot of confidence in me and used to tell me that you are my main player. But after coming back from illness the game changed and a lot of changes happened in the team. So as far as the 2015 World Cup is concerned you can’t pinpoint at something. So this is a very personal call. I can understand as a captain you can’t justify everything sometimes because, at the end of the day, you have to see how the country performs”.
