"Let him be.." Yuvraj Singh's brutal take on MI captaincy ahead of IPL 2024
Yuvraj Singh slammed MI decision to remove Rohit Sharma from captaincy ahead of the IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians (MI) made a huge change to their setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Mumbai brought in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans in a massive all-cash trade deal between the two sides and appointed him captain replacing five-time IPL title winner Rohit Sharma. MI fans were in shock after the announcement and slammed franchise’s decision of changing leadership.
Former India and MI all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has also joined the chorus echoed by MI fans and expressed that MI should have given Rohit Sharma one more season before making a change in captaincy. Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful side in the IPL history and have won the title five times in their history.
Yuvraj Singh questions MI’s decision
In a recent interaction with Star Sports, former MI all-rounder Yuvraj Singh said that Rohit Sharma is a successful leader of the ‘Mumbai Indians,’ and removing him is a big decision. Yuvraj said, “Rohit Sharma is a 5-time IPL winner as a captain. Removing him is a big decision. I would have gotten someone in, like they brought Hardik (Pandya), but I still would have given Rohit one more season and let Hardik be the vice captain and see how the whole franchise works.”
Yuvraj Singh also added that currently Rohit is leading the Indian team and playing good cricket. Yuvraj added, “I understand from the franchise’s point of view, they have to see the future of the franchise. But then again, Rohit is captaining India and still playing well, so it’s a big decision.” Rohit Sharma recently became first ever captain to win a test series against England since Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes took over the test side.
Yuvraj Singh also underlined the challenge Hardik Pandya will get captaining Mumbai Indians. He believes that leading MI will be lot different than leading Gujarat Titans, Yuvraj said, “In terms of talent, yes, he has great talent. Being captain of Gujarat will be different from being captain of Mumbai. Expectations are a lot. Mumbai Indians have been a big side.”
