Yuzvendra Chahal is playing for Northamptonshire in the ongoing 2025 County Championship.
The 2025 County Championship has seen Yuzvendra Chahal quickly rekindle his magic, clean bowling the batter with a ripper to give Kent an early scare.
Kent chose to bat first and, after batting out 155.5 overs, scored 566/8 in the first innings. Chahal delivered an incredible 42 of those in his opening game of the season for Northamptonshire, but he was unable to take a wicket, with stats of 0-129.
Four batters—Ricardo Vasconcelos, Calvin Harrison, Saif Zaib, and Justin Broad—scored hundreds as Northamptonshire responded with an even greater score of 722-6. In an attempt to give Zaib a fair shot at Kent in the second innings, Northamptonshire stated after lunch on day four that he was undefeated at 196.
Through the conclusion of the season, he is anticipated to be a vital member of Northants in both red and white-ball formats. Chahal’s career-best 9/99 against Derbyshire last year garnered media attention, and he already appears determined to surpass it.
He finished his 2024 spell as one of the championship’s most impressive bowlers, taking 19 wickets at an average of 21 in just four First-Class (FC) games.
Yuzvendra Chahal dismisses Ekansh Singh in Northamptonshire vs Kent game with a beauty
Yuzvendra Chahal took the second over of the innings after Liam Guthrie bowled the first, a surprising choice as they began the bowling. Before Chahal scored in the ninth over, Guthrie thrashed opener Jaydyn Denly in the opening over.
Chahal removed No. 3 Ekansh Singh for 27 off 24 balls by looping a ball that drifted to pitch on leg stump, causing it to fly laterally and smash into his off-stump. After bowling 45.3 overs, it was Chahal’s first wicket of the match.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last season, so I’m very happy to be coming back. There are some great people in that dressing room, and I can’t wait to be part of that again. We played some great cricket towards the back end of the season, so hopefully, we’re able to replicate that and big up some victories,” Yuzvendra Chahal had said when he joined the county side for the 2025 season.
