"I'm used to it now," Yuzvendra Chahal breaks his silence on losing World Cup spot to Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Ashwin
Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was dropped from Indian team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Team India have picked veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin along with left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in their 15-members squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was dropped from Indian squad after his poor form in white-ball cricket recently. Despite being part of the bilateral tours for India, Chahal failed to get into World Cup squad three times in the last three years.
Reacting to his exclusion from Indian squad, Chahal expressed that he has made it a habit and is now used to such decisions. In an interview with Wisden India, Yuzvendra Chahal said that he understands the decision, as only 15 members can be chosen and no extra player can be carried for the big tournament. Yuzvendra Chahal has not represented team India in any ICC event since World Cup 2019, where he ended up picking 12 wickets in English conditions.
'I am used to it now'
Yuzvendra Chahal expressed disappointment over his exclusion and said, “I understand that only fifteen players can be a part because it’s a World Cup, where you cannot take 17 or 18 players. I do feel a little bad, but my motto in life is to move on. I am used to it now. It’s been three World Cups."Yuzvendra Chahal was dropped from 2021 T20 World Cup played in UAE, and again, in 2022 T20 World Cup, he was left out despite having a great IPL season.
Chahal eyeing for test debut
Discarded from the limited-overs format, Chahal is now working on building his career in the red-ball format as well as in limited-overs cricket. He is currently in England and recently concluded county season playing Kent County. Chahal said, “That’s why I came here (Kent) to play because I want to play cricket somewhere, somehow. I am getting a chance here with a red ball, and I seriously want to play red ball for India. So it was a good experience for me."
Former Indian cricketers have also slammed the decision to drop Yuzvendra Chahal from World Cup 2023 squad. Two members of 2011 World Cup-winning campaign for India, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh, have openly criticised the decision. Yuvraj said that leaving out Chahal would be a mistake, while Harbhajan Singh also said that Chahal should have been in the team for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
