Yuzvendra Chahal to play for Kent in County Cricket after facing WC snub - Reports
Yuzvendra Chahal missed out on being part of India's squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
According to reports, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was left out of the 15-members squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India, announced on Tuesday that he will be making his debut in county cricket by joining Kent.
"The Kent County Cricket Club will make an official announcement regarding this development soon. Chahal will play three four-day games for them. The BCCI has granted him an NOC to play county cricket. Should he be a requirement for the India team, Chahal will join the national squad immediately," said a source in the BCCI told TOI.
In 2023, Yuzvendra Chahal has played in just two one-day internationals (ODIs) and has managed to take three wickets. Throughout his career, the 33-years-old has accumulated a total of 121 wickets in 72 ODIs at an average of 27.13. In addition to his ODI record, he has also claimed 96 wickets in 80 T20Is with an average of 25.09.
It is very disappointing to miss out, says Yuzvendra Chahal
In an interview with TOI, Chahal expressed his hope that it won't be too long before he returns to the Indian cricket team. He acknowledged the disappointment of not being selected and stated, "Naturally, it is very disappointing to miss out on any selection for India. As cricketers, we must accept that some things don't always go our way. I must continue to try my best, and hopefully my performances will justify selection again for India." Chahal shared.
Chahal also expressed his gratitude towards Brindon Bagirathan, the CEO of Zestige Private Healthcare, who played a key role in helping him secure the opportunity to play county cricket. Chahal mentioned, "Rahul Dravid Sir speaks so highly of his time in county cricket: I really wanted to play (in county cricket). I cannot explain how grateful I am to my good friend Brindon, who helped me on such short notice, the leg spinner." added.
