Spain and Colombia will face in the finale of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Spaniards defeated their German counterparts by a thin margin of 1-0 in their semifinal clash.
On the other hand, Colombia outclassed Nigeria 6-5 on penalties after a goalless game in regulation time. Interestingly, Spain and Colombia faced each other in their tournament opener in Navi Mumbai itself back on October 12.
Spain had emerged triumphant in that match courtesy an 85th-minute goal by Jone Amezaga Martinez. However, the Colombian unit has been unbeaten since then and has defeated the likes of China, Mexico, Tanzania and Nigeria subsequently. The Spanish team suffered a 2-1 loss by the hands of Mexico in their second group-stage encounter too.
However, they recuperated well to defeat China and Japan thereafter before beating Germany in the semi-final. It is to be noted that Spain is the defending champions of this tournament as well. They had won the 2018 edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay by defeating Mexico 2-1 in the finale. They have finished in the top-three spots in four of the six editions of the competition until now.
On the other hand, the Colombian side has arguably sprung a surprise this time around as they had never finished in the podium in any of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cups so far. On that note, join Khel Now’s live coverage of the grand finale right here.
