Aidy Boothroyd: If we focus on performance, results should come by themselves

The Jamshedpur FC head coach also heaped praise on Chennaiyin FC.
After consecutive losses Jamshedpur FC is looking to be out of the favourite six for the ISL 2022-23 season. The team has had quite a roller coaster ride for the past five matches. Aidy Boothroyd's army have played exceptionally well against good teams like Mumbai City but have struggled against lower ranked teams after dominating the game initially.
The team has been haunted by some bad luck as well. And Aidy knows it well that nothing goes by your side in bad times. The coach is optimistic about the season and insists on believing the system he wants to play.
Here are the excerpts from the pre match press conference (attended by tactician Aidy Boothroyd and midfielder Wellington Priori) before the game against Chennaiyin FC.
Thoughts before the game
The coach started with his thoughts on the five games and takeaways from them. He asserted, “I think when things are going well for you, you get the balance with the ball. And I am quite pleased with so many aspects where the players have excelled in and gelled together. We had a couple of results that could have turned either way. But this is what football is, there are ups and downs.”
The mentor continued, “We have a few injuries and this will be an opportunity for others to come and show what you are all about. The team has good performances and we hope for a good result tomorrow evening.”
On Chennaiyin FC
The hosts Chennaiyin FC are coming off an embarrassing loss against Mumbai City with a scoreline of 6-2. Aidy Boothroyd commented, “Thomas’ team is a good team because they have more points at the moment. I like the way they play. Sometimes you play well and look at the scoreboard and it’s 6-2, so that happens. Mumbai is a winner and are a good team. We could have won against them in the last minutes and that shows how open the league is.”
“I am expecting a difficult game against Chennaiyin who are a good team with a good coach,” the manager added.
On his team’s inconsistency
Jamshedpur FC have been impressive in segments of the game but have failed to keep the same pace throughout. Aidy Boothroyd shared his thoughts on the concern:
“That’s a good point to be highlighted. We have been very good in possession some of the times and very bad also at other times, in transitions and set-pieces, all those things in several games but never as a whole. We know we can do it. If we focus on performances, results should come by themselves.”
Wellington’s words
The Brazilian midfielder also answered some questions thrown at him along with Aidy. He opined about the team and asked the fans to believe in the coach's plan.
“For me we have a very good team. We have shown that in the training and in games in patches. But we need to learn more about how to play as a unit. When we can do that, I am sure we’ll be very difficult to beat.”
