The Hyderabad FC head coach also spoke on the refereeing in the match.

Hyderabad FC faced their first loss of the season in a tightly-fought contest against Kerala Blasters. The loss also meant that Manolo Marquez's side conceded for the first time after five consecutive clean sheets, the result though does not affect their position in the ISL 2022-23 points table. They remain top of the standings.

Hyderabad FC Coach Manolo Marquez dissected the game and here is what he made of it:

Thoughts on the game

Manolo said that he was happy with his side's second half and the effort they made to get the equaliser. But rued the missed chances in the second half. ‘’In the second half we had clear chances and I'm happy with the second half. The team created a lot of chances and we made Kerala Blasters defend with a lot of order, but I'm disappointed with the first half."

He added that Kerala had won with a good goal but it was a tight game. ‘’I think that we played better in some games in the second half and lose, and there are big teams that don't lose such games. But we are very happy with the team's effort and you can't win every game and now we have to come back stronger."

Team not scoring more than one goal in matches

To this Manolo Marquez said ‘’If we win 1-0, the question arises as to why we don't score more goals. If we win 4-3, it's why we concede three goals. Even in the last game, we scored the first goal and we had very clear chances to score more, but we didn't and we won the last four games with a 1-0 scoreline.

‘’Last season we scored more goals but we give the opponents more chances and now the team is defending very good." He concluded by saying, "It's true we maybe need to score more but I'm very happy with my team's second-half performance and Kerala Blasters did a good job defending and playing with 10 players behind the ball."

Referees in the league

Manolo addressed that they lost the game and not because of the referee. ‘’I have nothing to comment on the referee for today's loss, even today the referee has to know about the player in order to give him a card. When I speak about my team they have to know how is (Nikhil) Poojari, Joao (Victor) and in some moments its difficult for them as the referee is the person with the most difficult job in the game. I have no problem with the referee today." He again stated that the referee did not have an impact on the final score.

Opponents defending after scoring the first goal against Hyderabad FC

‘’The thing that is very obvious is the style of the team is different and the style of the players is different. Maybe we have more players in better shape last season, but we are top of the table after seven games, I think losing is okay, but in my opinion, a draw was a fair result. But it is true that when the opponent score, it's more difficult for us to score the next one.’’

He pointed out that last season Hyderabad FC came back to win nine games when the opponent scored first and this season as well they came back against Mumbai City FC and Chennaiyin FC (In the Durand Cup).
