Can Germany still qualify for knockout round of World Cup 2022?

Germany are facing another elimination from the group stage for a consecutive World Cup.

Germany have had a terrible World Cup outing with a surprise defeat by Japan and now a 1-1 draw with Spain. The World Cup aspirations appear to be over, and the final group stage match will determine whether they go to the knockout rounds.

Germany fell behind again as replacement Alvaro Morata flicked the ball beyond Manuel Neuer, as Germans were glaring at another elimination, but the entrance of Sane and Fullkrug accelerated their game, and it ultimately paid off as Bremer striker slammed on the roof of the net, giving Germany a reprieve.

Germany presently have one point and is at the bottom of the table with a goal difference of -1. While Costa Rica's 1-0 triumph against Japan have given Germany encouragement for the round of 16, Germany will now face Costa Rica in the last group stage encounter, while Japan will face Spain.

And if Germany wants to move further in the competition, they must defeat Costa Rica, while Spain must oust Japan in their final encounter. However, there will be ambiguities. If Japan wins against Spain, they will qualify with six points, whilst a win for Germany will draw them on points but Spain will progress on goal difference.

How can Spain Qualify?

It is direct for Spain to defeat Japan and finish first in the group. After a draw with Germany, Spain remains top of the group with four points. If they lose and Germany wins, they will have the same number of points, and then Spain will progress on goal difference. And if Costa Rica wins, Spain will be eliminated from the tournament, while Japan and Costa Rica will qualify.

How can Germany qualify?

Spain and Germany will advance to the World Cup round of 16 if they win their final group matches. Costa Rice were grateful to their goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, who denied Japan and kept them in contention, as well as resurrecting Germany's qualifying ambitions.
