The game has been released by FIFA this Friday, and fans can start planning their starting lineup for when the action starts in the second half of November.
Everything you need to know for a fantasy football World Cup 2022 game is below.
How do I play fantasy football for the 2022 World Cup?

How can you gain points in a fantasy football World Cup 2022 game?
Points can be earned by players in the typical methods of fantasy football.
You will receive points for anyone who assists or scores a goal, as well as for any players on the defence who keep the score clean.
The main distinction between the Sky Sports version and the former is that in the latter, players can earn extra points for successful passes, shots on goal, and tackles.
All players
- Starting XI - 2
- Substitution Appearance - 1
- Goal Scored (GK & DEF) - 7
- Goal Scored (MID) - 6
- Goal Scored (STR) - 5
- Goal Assist - 3
- Clean Sheet (DEF) - 5
- Penalty Miss - -3
- 2+ Goal Conceded (GK & DEF) - -1
- Own Goal - -2
- Yellow Card - -1
- Red Card - -3
Goalkeepers
- Clean Sheet - 7
- Goal Scored - 7
- Penalty Save - 5
A goalkeeper's penalty save counts whether or not they touch the ball during a penalty attempt. However, this means that if the penalty shooter entirely misses the target, the goalie will be given the penalty point.
- 2+ Goal Conceded - -1
What are the different bonus tiers?
When it comes to earning extra points, players can choose from four bonus tiers.
They are:
- Passes
- Saves
- Shots on target
- Tackles
The bonus points, however, are divided into two tiers, Tier 1 and Tier 2, with the lower tier awarding players with an extra two points for each category and the upper threshold giving them three.
Bonus Points - Tier 1:
- 60 completed passes - 2
- 3 saves made - 2
- 2 shots on target - 2
- 4 total tackles - 2
Bonus Points - Tier 2:
- 70 completed passes - 3
- 5 saves made - 3
- 3 shots on target - 3
- 5 total tackles - 3
In mini-leagues, this form of point scoring might mean the difference between winning and losing. It also creates value by allowing you to target players that aren't often considered in fantasy football.
However, a defensive midfielder, for example, may not contribute goals or assists, but they can consistently deliver 5/6/7 points by making numerous tackles or passes.
How does captaincy function?
As is common in many games, a player scores double points when named captain - this works both positively and negatively.
The main difference between the Sky Sports game and the others is that you choose a captain for each day rather than each game week.
For example, if a set of fixtures takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, you will choose a captain who will score double points on each of those days.
This maximises your point's return potential, and it's worth ensuring that your XI keeps players involved on different days for this reason.
How do you choose your team?
Rather than selecting an entire squad, you only need to select 11 individuals to form your team.
This is based on a total budget of £100 million, and there is no limit to the number of players you may choose from a single country.
You have a choice of six formations, which are as follows:
- 4-3-3 (1 x GK, 4 x DEF, 3 x MID, 3 x STR)
- 4-4-2 (1 x GK, 4 x DEF, 4 x MID, 2 x STR)
- 4-5-1 (1 x GK, 4 x DEF, 5 x MID, 1 x STR)
- 3-5-2 (1 x GK, 3 x DEF, 5 x MID, 2 x STR)
- 5-3-2 (1 x GK, 5 x DEF, 3 x MID, 2 x STR)
- 3-4-3 (1 x GK, 3 x DEF, 4 x MID, 3 x STR)
What are the transfer rules?
While we await formal confirmation of the number of transfers available during the tournament, we know the transfer restrictions will remain the same as they have been all season.
The big distinction here is that transfers can be made during a game week and count.
It is also worth mentioning that points for players who are transferred out stay after the alteration.
For example, if you have Phil Foden in your team and he plays at 12:30 on Monday, and then you switch him out for Antoinne Griezmann, who plays at 19:00 on Wednesday, you will receive points for both players.
Do player prices fluctuate?
The fact that player prices don't change makes this game apart from other fantasy football games.
This holds true regardless of the player's form or the number of times they have been moved in or out.
Therefore, even if a striker scores eight goals while playing in the championship game, their price will remain unchanged.
What do you mean by Overhaul?
The Overhaul is a moment when you can make an endless number of changes to your XI.
The squad, however, must stay within the £100 million budget.
Does this game have an Overhaul phase?
This has yet to be confirmed, however, we believe that an Overhaul will be available to gamers.
The Sky Sports game, like the rest of the season, allows you to make modifications right up until the start of the first game. For example, if the first game of the day begins at 13:00, you will have until that time to make any transfers or captaincy changes for that day.
This a reminder that all changes for that day must be made prior to the deadline. So, if you want a player to be available for the game at 19:00, you must make the adjustment before 13:00 otherwise it will not count for that day.
What are the regulations concerning assists?
Players can gain points for assists in a variety of methods, much like in the domestic season.
An assist is defined as the final pass or pass-come-shot that results in the ball's recipient scoring a goal. It also consists of the following actions:
- Penalty won
- Attempted saved, rebound scored
- Attempt hit the woodwork, rebound scored
- Instigating an own goal through a shot/pass
