The NorthEast United head coach emphasized on the importance of the victory.
After a 10 match losing streak, NorthEast United have finally broken the deadlock. Vincenzo Alberto Annese's men picked up their first points of the ISL 2022-23 season with a motivating win against a much superior ATK Mohun Bagan. It was only their second win over the Mariners.
The visiting team started strongly, but NorthEast held on to their nerves and capitalised on their chances. And just like that, Wilmar Jordan found the back of the net past Vishal Kaith and scored his third goal of the season.
After the game, head coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese addressed the media.
Thoughts on the game
The head coach shared his thoughts on the game and said that there’s still room for improvement.
“The guys were super. As I said, with time the guys will improve. I’m a winner and I want my players to be winners. Step by step, we will improve and we need a lot to improve. We need to improve in attack, defence and physicality. But step by step we will do better,” he stated.
Thoughts on ATK Mohun Bagan
The Italian had already defeated the Mariners earlier this year with his former team Gokulam Kerala. When asked if the previous game against them helped him in this fixture, Vincenzo said, “I know them well because I defeated them at their home. I don’t want to be arrogant. They have an amazing team with a lot of quality players. They played well, but today we were superb.
“I was afraid that they changed their strategy in the second half. So, even I changed the tactics. We must be more crucial in attack. I think Emil (Benny) could have scored a goal."
He further went on to speak about his conversation with the club president and then wished everyone a very Merry Christmas.
“This was very important for the team and for the president who believed in my job. I’m so happy for him too. Now we think about Hyderabad FC. I’ve never faced them so I’m excited. Merry Christmas to everybody.”
How important is the win?
Vincenzo Alberto Annese spoke about the importance of the win against ATKMB before signing off. He said it was very important to win because the team had been working very hard.
“Winning is very important. When you’re serious in the job and when everybody believes in my job and follows my instructions. I need to thank all my staff and players. It is very important for us,” he signed off.
