Top five nations with highest ranking jump after World Cup 2022
These teams performed really well in the Qatar tournament
Argentina won their third FIFA World Cup in a glorious manner. Emiliano Martinez pulled off a clutch performance in the penalties. After the FIFA World Cup 2022 ended, FIFA released a list of rankings. Surprisingly Argentina are second despite winning the World Cup. Brazil are first and lead Argentina by 2 points. The tally was made on the basis of the strength of their opponents. However there are some nations who have made a big ranking jump after the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Let's take a look at the top five nations with the highest ranking jumps after FIFA World Cup 2022:
5. USA
USA football team or soccer team as they say has moved up three spots. They are now ranked 13th in the world after the FIFA World Cup 2022.
USMNT has a roster full of promises and talent. The next World Cup (2026) is set to be held in the USA. USA's defeat to Netherlands in the Round of 16 has set a foundation for the future. As the USA prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup 2026 ,they will look to strategically invest in their future.
4. Japan
Famously termed as the "Blue Lock "project. Japan won everyone's hearts at the FIFA World Cup 2022. They were placed in a group of death along with Spain and Germany. However, Japan topped the group beating both Spain and Germany. Japan beat Spain in a heroic comeback as their win knocked out Germany. Unfortunately, Croatia beat Japan in the penalty shootouts. Japan were 24th before the FIFA World Cup 2022. After a relentless run ,they have moved up four spots and are now 20th.
3. Cameroon
Placed in Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2022, Cameroon had slim chances of even winning a match. Brazil and Switzerland were the best teams whilst Serbia had a good squad. However, Cameroon managed to finish third in the group and they did it in an emphatic manner. Cameroon and Brazil have had quite some history in the past. Brazil had faced Cameroon thrice in the past and were undefeated. However this time at the FIFA World Cup 2022, Cameroon managed to keep Brazil at bay. Moreover, Aboubakar scored a late winning goal as Cameroon finally broke the deadlock against Brazil. This win moved them 10 places up and now they are ranked 33rd.
2. Australia
Quite unexpected but the Australian football team deserves every bit of credit. Australia moved up 11 spots to the 27th rank. The Australians finished second in Group D of the FIFA World Cup 2022. They managed to bag 6 points and progressed to the Round of 16 against eventual champions Argentina. What seemed like a one-sided match was perhaps one of the most exciting matches of the World Cup. Argentina managed to keep Australia down after scoring 2 goals. Australia turned up late and dominated Argentina for a solid thirty minutes. They even managed to force an own goal. The Australians were very close to equalising if it was not for Emi Martinez's superb last-minute save.
1. Morocco
As expected, The Atlas Lions are the best underdogs of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Everyone will remember Morocco's heroic and undisputed run in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Morocco were placed in Group F along with Belgium, Croatia and Canada. They ended up first and undefeated, beating Belgium and Canada. Morocco then pulled off another big upset beating Spain on penalties in the Round Of 16. Credits to Yassine Bounou and his heroics. The goalkeeper had only conceded one goal(own goal) up until the semifinals. Morocco then also managed to beat Portugal in the Quarter Finals. Unfortunately, they were no match for France and lost in the semifinals. Regardless, Morocco have moved up 11 spots and are now 11th in the World.
