The Men of Steel tasted their ninth defeat of the season in a fixture against Kerala Blasters.

Jamshedpur FC's bad patch continues as they faced their ninth defeat of the season in their 12th ISL 2022-23 fixture. Kerala Blasters got the better of the Men of Steel as they downed Aidy Boothroyd's army 3-1 at Kochi. Kerala Blasters got an early lead in the ninth minute via Apostolos Giannou.

Despite an equaliser from Daniel Chima Chukwu in the 17th minute, the side failed to establish a strong foothold in the game. On the other hand, a penalty from Dimitrios Diamantakos in the 31st minute and a goal from Adrian Luna in the 65th minute sealed the game for the Yellow Army.

Coach's reaction

After the game, at the post-match press conference, Jamshedpur FC head coach Aidy Boothroyd briefly stated his plans for the January transfer window. Boothroyd informed that the club management is mulling over bringing a new midfielder and a new centre-back to the squad. Contextually, one of Jamshedpur's foreign centre-backs, Peter Hartley, has left the club. The club has recently signed Dylan Fox as his replacement as well. But such a comment from the JFC boss comes as a surprise to many.

This is what Aidy Boothroyd had to say regarding expected January signings:

"There are a variety of ways through which you can get close to the goal. Today, we were playing with two aggressive target players. Ritwik (Das) came on and did very well. He is back in form. We created chances in and around the opposition's goal. The key thing for us is to get the right players in the right roles. So, a couple of signings this week shall make us a stronger side before the next game. These signings will be a midfielder and a centre-back."

Jamshedpur FC's performance in the 2022-23 season

The ISL 2022-23 season has been nothing short of a nightmare for the Men of Steel. They have played 12 games and emerged victorious only once. Currently, they have five points and are in the 10th position on the points table, just above NorthEast United. This is completely in contrast to their previous season in which the side finished on top of the table and won the ISL League Winners Shield.

Despite retaining most of the personnel from last season, the departure of their former manager Owen Coyle and last season's Player of the League Greg Stewart took a toll on the club's overall performance. Now, it is to be seen how one of the most supported clubs in the country navigate the situation to bring joy to their fans. It will also be interesting to see whom they sign this month.
