Top five players to play for both Napoli and Inter Milan
There have been some footballers who have played for both clubs.
Inter Milan and Napoli are among the biggest clubs in Italian football at the moment, but their rivalry is still underrated. Currently, both clubs are undergoing contrasting phases of their season. Napoli is undefeated in the league race, while Inter Milan is in fifth place, battling for the Champions League.
In spite of this, both teams will arrive with rejuvenated spirits after the World Cup break. Both teams have a good history in the league and share a fierce rivalry. However, there have also been some significant transfers between clubs.
So let's take a look at the top five players to play for both Napoli and Inter Milan
5. Matteo Politano
One of the most recent and current players to wear the jersey of both giants is Matteo Politano. Currently playing for Napoli, the Italian winger spent three years with Inter Milan. Naples became his new home in 2021. Politano is a regular name on Spalletti's team and has enjoyed a great time this season. In 14 appearances for them this season, he has scored three goals and provided three assists.
4. Hugo Campagnaro
Former Argentine centre-back Hugo Campagnaro is very familiar to Napoli fans. He played for them for five seasons and made 118 appearances. Throughout his career, Campagnaro was a fan favourite and a leader of the pack.
In 2013, he switched to Inter Milan after failing to find a place in Sarri's plans. In his two seasons with them, Campagnaro made 31 appearances and was mostly plagued by injuries. During the 2014 World Cup, he was also part of Argentina's dream run.
3. Walter Gargano
The Napoli legend Walter Gargano went on loan to Inter from Naples city and is one of the few players to do so. Gargano spent a large part of his career in Italy, where he was the heartbeat of Napoli's defence from 2007 to 2015. During his eight years at the club, he played 189 games for them.
Gargano joined Inter Milan on loan with a buyout clause during 2012/13. In 28 appearances for them, he failed to impress the coach enough to make a permanent move.
2. Salvatore Bagni
Our next legend is an Italian legend and one of the most prominent faces of the 70s and 80s football era. For his tricks in midfield, Salvatore Bagni was called the Italian magician. During the 80s, he played 41 times for the Italian national team.
Bagni plied trade for both Napoli and Inter Milan. It was Inter Milan, however, who gave him his first breakthrough and helped him climb up the career ladder. During his Inter Milan career, he appeared in 82 games.
1. Goran Pandev
Goran Pandev is regarded as one of Macedonia's greatest strikers. During his career, he played for seven Italian clubs before finally retiring after the 2021/22 season. During his career in the Italian league, he played for three different clubs more than 100 times. Pandev, however, is primarily remembered for his 192 appearances with Lazio from 2004 to 2009.
Lazio was his first big stop before he moved to Inter Milan where he made 69 appearances and scored eight goals. Having impressed them during his loan 2011/12 spell, he signed a permanent contract with Napoli in 2012. In 124 appearances for Napoli, Pandev scored 22 goals.
