Bundesliga 2022-23: Borussia Monchengladbach vs Bayern Munich: Predicted lineup, injury news, head-to-head, telecast
The Bavarian's route to a record-extending 11th consecutive title continues on Saturday as they head to Borussia Park.
Borussia Monchengladbach will have to take heart coming into this match against Bayern having been the only Bundesliga side to have earned 32 points against Bayern since 2011 (W9, D5, L9). They'll be looking to continue this run, having yet to win at home this season having drawn one and lost one, in 2023. A morale-affecting 4-1 loss, last game week to lowly Hertha Berlin, will not have helped Daniel Farke's hopes for a top-half finish, and a positive result against the top side at home is exactly the fixture to turn around from mid-table mediocrity.
Bayern Munich will be very pleased and happy to come away from Paris, midweek in the Champions League, with a 1-0 win, courtesy of a Kingsley Coman goal. They've been buoyed by recent wins against Wolfsburg (2-4) away and Bochum (3-0), after a hat-trick of draws to restart in 2023, post the World Cup, against Leipzig, Koln and Frankfurt respectively. It'll also be an emotional occasion for the returning Yan Sommer who returns to face his former side after appearing 227 times for his former foals.

Players to watch out
Borussia Mönchengladbach: Jonas Hofmann
The full-time German International has finally gotten the National Team's manager's attention with his consistent performances for his club, in the past couple of seasons, earning him a spot in the Germany World Cup team in Qatar. Hoffmann has been the key creative outlet for the Gladbach side who're struggling in a mid-table crisis and unable to find consistency in their performances post the winter, break and the onus will be on Hofmann, even more, to add to his goal contribution tally (currently with 7 goals & 5 assists, in 17 matches), especially against an opponent such as Bayern who travel exceptionally well on the road. The Germany International is arguably having his best season at a club level and is on course to break last season's 17-goal contributions, if he sustains his form, and helps Gladbach to move higher up the table, starting with the game against Bayern.
Bayern Munich: Thomas Muller
Last year's top assister in the league Thomas Muller, is having a relatively quiet season, given his heavy-weight exploits of the past seasons gone by. The veteran Raumdeuter has also missed the focal presence of Bayern's 2nd all-time goalscorer and ever-present Robert Lewandowski, who moved to Barcelona last summer. He's had to play the role of the leading marksman for his side and has eight goals contributions to his name this season. However, he's had to play second fiddle to Eric Chuopo Moting in several games, with the Bayern manager rotating his forward players frequently. Thomas Müller will make his 429th Bundesliga, this game week, and this will put him level with current Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn, and only second behind Sepp Maier (473) in the all-time appearance list. He'll look to mark the occasion with a goal and is one the watch out for.
Team and Injury News
For Borussia, top scorer Marcus Thuram might miss out with a calf injury, and will be evaluated before the game. The same goes for first-choice right-back Scally (muscle) who also sustained an injury against Hertha last week, besides winger Borges (Tendon), who'll also miss the match.
For Bayern, Yan Sommer will be deputising, for Manuel Neuer (Leg injury), who'll be returning to his former side for the first time, since moving from Gladbach to Bayern. Other key personnel such as centre-back Hernandez (knee), Mane(Leg), Mazraoui (Heart), and Coman (calf) will also miss out.

Predicted Lineups
Borussia Mönchengladbach predicted lineup (4-2-3-1):
Omlin - Friedrich, Itakura, Elvedi, Bensebaini - Weigl, Kone - Hofmann, Kramer, Stindl (c) - Plea
Bayern Munich predicted lineup (4-2-3-1):
Sommer; Cancelo, Upamecano, De Ligt, Davies; Gravenberch, Goretzka; Sane, Müller (c), Gnabry; Choupo-Moting
Match Predictions
Bayern are putting in some serious heavyweight performances in recent weeks, with at least three goals scored in the last two Bundesliga game weeks. With only a point between chasing Union Berlin and then, anything other than a win will be detrimental to their record-chasing Bundesliga title bid and should have enough quality this weekend to get over the line at Gladbach.
Prediction: Borussia Mönchengladbach 1 - 3 Bayern Munich
