On Saturday night, the jubilant Spurs travel away to King Power Stadium to face TheFoxes

Leicester City have been in fine form in the recent weeks after they picked up 4 points in their last three fixtures in the Premier League. A 4-2 comeback win against Aston Villa and a 2-2 draw against a resurgent Brighton side have got them just out of the relegation zone. Sitting at 14th in the table with 21 points on board, they are now 3 points ahead of 18th placed Everton. The Foxes picked up their first Premier League win against Aston Villa last week since the competition resumed following the World Cup. Rodgers will be keen to solidify his team’s morale with many more of these kind of performances if they are to avoid the drop come the end of May.

Tottenham have found wind in their sails and can climb above Newcastle United to 4th spot with a victory against Leicester City. Harry Kane’s solitary goal against Manchester City gave Spurs a much needed victory as they got their revenge from three weeks back after they lost out by 4-2 against Guardiola’s men. Although Spurs have found the net in each of the last five matches across all competitions scoring at least one goal, Conte’s men will have to strive more if they aim for a Champions League spot next season.

Kick-off:

11-02-2023; 03:00 pm (GMT), 08:30 pm (IST)

Leicester City form (all competition): W-W-D-L-L

Tottenham Hotspur form (all competition): W-W-W-L-L

Player to watch

Leicester City

James Maddison

In terms of technique, Maddison tends to favour using the outside of his right foot to make those long passes into the path of Vardy or Barnes. He can also provide those dangerous crosses into the box when he is playing on the left side or when he is on corner duties. A playmaker by all means, he also has that goal scoring knack in him which makes him a trouble for defenders. He has 8 goals and 4 assists in his name already this campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane

The all-time record goal scorer for Tottenham with 267 goals has been in phenomenal form this season. Antonio Conte will be banking on him to provide the goods yet again as the Foxes’ defence have looked vulnerable throughout this season. He has 17 goals in the Premier League this campaign and he remains the only challenger for Erling Haaland in the golden boot race.

Match facts

  • Leicester City have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 home games against Spurs. Shipping at least one goal in each of their last 13 meetings.
  • Tottenham have won their last four Premier League fixtures against Leicester. The best winning run against the Foxes in their Premier League history.
  • Since Leicester’s return to the Premier League in 2014. Their games against Tottenham have produced a total of 71 goals, the most of any fixture in the competition in that time.

Injury and team news

James Justin has been out for Leicester City since November with a ruptured achilles tendon which means that Castagne will continue at right-back position. Ryan Bertrand is set to undergo a knee surgery while Jonny Evans still remains out with a calf injury. The return of Ricardo Pereira is also unknown who has been missing out since August, 2022. Patson Daka, Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy have been used in every probable way by Brendan Rodgers until now while the pairing of Dewsbury Hall and Tielemans is expected to start in the midfield.

Richarlison is still having concerns with a hamstring injury and it is very unlikely that Conte will jeopardise his fitness ahead of the important Champions League clash against AC Milan. Harry Kane, Kulusevski and Son Heung Min are expected to stick in the front three with Bentancur and Hojbjerg just behind them in the midfield. Cristian Romero is set to face a one match suspension after he got sent off against Manchester City for a second yellow card in the 87th minute. Clement Lenglet remains the most viable option for Conte to replace Romero in the backline.

Prediction

This encounter has always produced some thrillers and it is bound to be a goal scoring fest given the run of form both of these teams have had in the recent weeks. Tottenham Hotspur just have the edge over their opponents given the personality in their ranks but Rodgers’ men will show no signs of backing down. Finally, a narrow victory for Tottenham Hotspur seems like a possible result at the end of 90 minutes.
