I-League: Champions RoundGlass Punjab aim to finish on a high

RGPFC are on an unbeaten run at home and will look to preserve that record.

Newly crowned I League champions RoundGlass Punjab FC (RGPFC) will look to finish their season unbeaten at home when they face Tiddim Road Athletic Union FC (TRAU) in a Round 22 fixture of the Hero I-League 2022-23 season which will be played here at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 PM. The I-League trophy will also be presented tomorrow after the final match of the season.

RGPFC will look to remain unbeaten at home, which was a huge advantage in their success to the season. RGPFC has just dropped two points at home winning nine matches and one match ended in a draw. They will aim to finish the season unbeaten at their strong fold and end the season on a high note.

Vergetis confirms a changed line-up

“We would like to remain unbeaten at home this season and the players are focused on the game. There will be some changes in the lineup as the players who haven’t played much this season deserve to play", said RGPFC Head Coach Staikos Vergetis during the pre-match press conference. On the reverse fixture defeat coach said “I believe that every game is a different story and it doesn’t matter what happened earlier, it is important that we do well in the moment."

The attack line of the team has been in fine form with Luka Majcen and Juan Mera making a lethal partnership scoring goals for fun. Luka has 14 goals while Juan Mera has 10 goals in the season occupying the second and third positions of the top goal scorers. The midfield and defence have also been in fine form complementing each other while both defending and attacking.

RGPFC defender and club captain Aleksandar Ignjatovic during the pre–match press conference said, “I am grateful for the whole season and we have achieved something big together as a team. With this win comes bigger responsibilities and that will start tomorrow and we hope that we will celebrate with our fans together after a win."

RoundGlass Punjab FC suffered their first loss of the season against TRAU last year when they were beaten 2 - 0 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Imphal. RGPFC is currently first in the table with 49 points from 21 matches while TRAU FC are fourth in the table with 35 points from 21 matches.
