The Custodian's heroics helped ATK Mohun Bagan beat Hyderabad FC on penalties after a 0-0 stalemate over two legs.
ATK Mohun Bagan secured a place in the Indian Super League (ISL) final with a 0-0 (4-3) win over Hyderabad FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata. Like the first leg, the second leg also finished goalless in normal time and extra time - forcing a penalty shoot-out.
Vishal Kaith came up big for the Mariners, saving Javier Siverio and Bart Ogbeche's penalties - before ATKMB captain Pritam Kotal scored the winning penalty to set up a final against Bengaluru FC on Saturday. Here are the Player Ratings for the game.
ATK Mohun Bagan (by Uttiyo Sarkar)
Vishal Kaith – 8.5
Kaith hardly had much to do in normal time apart from distributing and collecting crosses, which he did relatively well. But he turned hero in the penalty shoot-out, making two huge saves and coming up big for his side.
Asish Rai – 6.5
Rai did well to keep his former teammate Halicharan Narzary quiet with some decisive defending, making four interceptions. He was also pretty good going forward, creating two good chances with his inviting crosses.
Pritam Kotal – 7.5
Kotal did a very good job against Bartholomew Ogbeche and was proactive enough to stop the Nigerian from causing chaos. Read the moves well, making five clearances and a block. Secured the penalty win for his side with a decisive final kick in the shootout.
Slavko Damjanovic – 7.5
Damjanovic continued his sturdy form in the backline and ensured Brendan Hamill’s presence wasn’t missed. Used his aggressive yet reassuring style to good effect, making nine clearances in a rock-solid outing.
Subhashish Bose – 6.0
Bose wasn’t as impactful as his fellow defenders but did just enough to keep Yasir relatively contained. His forward passing was wasteful, but he did create a nice chance with an inviting cross in the first half.
Glan Martins – 7.5
Glan was a real livewire in ATKMB’s midfield and annoyed Hyderabad, not allowing them to build up moves through midfield. He pressed the players impressively, making five tackles and six interceptions – winning a lot of battles and regaining possession regularly. His passing, however, wasn’t up to the mark, and ran out of steam toward the end.
Carl McHugh – 6.0
While not as lively as Glan, McHugh was composed and tidy at the centre. Progressed the ball forward nicely and worked hard defensively, making two clearances and one interception. Missed a huge goal-scoring chance at the end of normal time, diverting a free header wide.
Manvir Singh – 7.5
Manvir looked charged up for the occasion and was a surging figure on the right. He made repeated bursting runs to make life difficult for Akash Mishra, covering a lot of ground throughout the 120 minutes, and keeping the opponents guessing. Tested the goalkeeper with a nice header and hit the bar with an excellent effort in the first half. Converted his penalty impressively.
Hugo Boumous – 6.0
Boumous didn’t appear fully fit but used his expertise to bypass Hyderabad’s rigid backline. Made some nice progressive passes and tested the goalkeeper with a surging effort in the second half.
Kiyan Nassiri – 5/0
Nassiri replaced Liston in the line-up. He did work hard and his touches were solid, the youngster failed to impose himself in the final third and was bested physically. Taken off at half-time.
Dimitri Petratos – 6.0
Petratos struggled to do much in open play because of the tight marking from Onaindia and his fellow defenders. But his work in set-pieces was excellent, as he created some major chances that weren’t slotted home. He slotted home his penalty well.
Substitutes
Liston Colaco – 4.5
Struggled to be an upgrade over Nassiri, failing to create anything major and being ineffective in the final third.
Federico Gallego – 6.5
Couldn’t really add that much of an impact, but did well with his set-piece delivery. Took a brilliant penalty in the shootout.
Lalrinalian Hnamte - 6.5
Hnamte added a lot of energy to ATKMB’s midfield in extra time and kept things fresh. Struck a nice effort wide of the goal in extra time too.
Brendan Hamill - N/R
Made little impact late on. Guided his penalty horribly wide in the shootout.
Hyderabad FC (by Waseem Zaidi)
Gurmeet Singh (GK) - 7.5
Gurmeet Singh kept another clean sheet before the match went into penalties. He was unlucky during the shootout as ATKMB players took exceptional spot kicks to send the team into the final.
Nikhil Poojary - 7.5
Nikhil Poojary’s duel with Hugo Boumous and Liston Colaco was entertaining to watch. The full-back attempted eight tackles and made five clearances in a solid defensive display.
Odei Onaindia - 7.0
The centre-back was once again immense for HFC, making seven clearances and kept a close watch on Petratos.
Chinglensana Singh - 6.5
Chinglensana Singh was calm in possession of the ball. He made eight clearances during the game and helped the team shut out the ATKMB attack.
Akash Mishra - 8.0
Akash Mishra was everywhere, contributing to both defense and attack for HFC. He made five blocks, and three interceptions while defending and created one scoring chance going forward. His duel with Asish Rai was a highlight.
Sahil Tavora - 7.0
Sahil Tavora gave his all on the field, took a yellow card, made 12 tackles during the game, and left the pitch with an 88% passing success rate. He got praise from his head coach after the game as well.
Borja Herrera - 6.5
The midfielder was a hard-working figure in the midfield. He had 43 touches in 67 minutes of game time and made two successful tackles in a solid performance.
Mohammad Yasir - 7.0
Mohammad Yasir was electric on the ball and lured ATKMB players into committing fouls. He delivered five crosses and created two scoring chances for the team. He also made four tackles in a decent performance.
Joel Chianese - 6.0
Joel Chianese could not find the back of the net once again as ATKMB defenders kept a close watch on him. He created one big chance to score and delivered two crosses but did not have an impact on the game.
Halicharan Narzary - 6.5
Halicharan Narzary made five tackles and two interceptions in a display where he had to do a lot of defensive work. He made way for Rohit Danu near the hour mark after failing to impact the game from the left flank.
Bartholomew Ogbeche - 4.0
The striker had a really poor outing. He could not make an impact in normal time or extra time and missed his penalty in the shootout as well.
Substitutions
Rohit Danu - 6.5
The substitute came on to add more pace and fresher legs. He was not sharp enough with his crossing and did not cause a lot of problems for the opposition. The 20-year-old converted his penalty under immense pressure.
Joao Victor - 7.5
The skipper’s arrival gave Hyderabad FC more control in the midfield. His distribution and pressing off the ball were key in retaining possession. He converted the first penalty in the shootout.
Javier Siverio - 6.0
Javier Siverio came on to support Bartholomew Ogbeche who cut an isolated figure. The striker had his penalty saved in the shootout.
Abdul Rabeeh - 6.5
Abdul Rabeeh replaced Yasir in the second half of extra time, hoping to trouble the opposition defenders with his pace.
Hitesh Sharma - N/A
Reagan Singh - N/A
