The Gunners will host The Whites to cement their place on top.

On Saturday night, Emirates Stadium will be the host for Arsenal vs Leeds United as The Gunners look to further cement their place at the top of the table.

Onto Matchday 29 and just a few games away from the finish line, things are heating up in the Premier League as Arsenal and Mikel Arteta can almost sense the holy grail in their hands. Although much has to be done after their shocking exit from UEFA Europa League. 8 points ahead of Manchester City having played a game more, The Gunners will host Leeds United in their recent venture. The North Londoners have won their last six Premier League games, their joint-longest such run under Mikel Arteta. They last won seven in a row between August and October 2018 under Unai Emery.

Leeds on the other hand have lots to do if they are to avoid the dreaded relegation zone. Hovering just above the 18th spot and just two points away from West Ham United, Leeds have won just two of their last 23 Premier League games against the league leaders (D9, L12) through both victories came away from home (vs Middlesbrough in August 2000 and Manchester City in April 2021). But Leeds won their second away league game of the season at Wolves last time out, netting more goals in that 4-2 victory than they had in their previous six on the road combined (3).

Kick-off:

Saturday, 01-04-2023, 07:30 pm (IST)

Saturday, 01-04-2023, 02:00 pm (GMT)

Arsenal form (all competition): W-L-W-D-W

Leeds United form (all competition): W-D-L-L-W

Player to watch

Arsenal

Granit Xhaka

Perhaps the most striking thing about Granit Xhaka is his extraordinary range of passing. From his deep-lying midfield position, Xhaka loves to spray the ball towards all parts of the field and he has been in a scoring spree from the midfield in the recent weeks which has been a massive addition to the Gunners’mettle.

Players to watch;

Leeds United: Wilfried Gnonto

Gnonto is a menace to the opposition when he has the ball at his feet. And the youngster has the ability to move the ball forward equally well through passing or carrying it. Gnonto is the classic definition of the modern winger who usually tries to receive the ball near the touchline to widen the field as much as possible and also destroy the opposing team’s shape. He has 2 goals and 3 assists in 16 appearances in Premier League this season.

Match facts

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 13 Premier League meetings with Leeds United in all competitions (W11, D2), since a 3-2 homes loss in May 2003 that ended The Gunners’ title bid that season.
  • Since a 0-0 draw in their first Premier League away game in February 1993, Leeds haven’t drawn or kept a clean sheet in any of their subsequent 13 league visits to The Gunners (W3, L10), shipping 31 goals in total.

Injury and team news

William Saliba limped off in Arsenal's exit from the Europa League against Sporting CP, suffering an issue with his back which might see him out for this fixture. Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney have minor issues but their place in the starting XI being compromised might have repercussions for Arsenal at such a vital point of the season. Eddie Nketiah has an ankle/foot injury which will keep him out till the next gameweek while Takehiro Tomiyasu has had a successful knee surgery and will be out for the rest of the season.

Leeds on the other hand will be making the trip without their club captain Tyler Adams at the heart of the midfield as he has a thigh injury and his return date is unknown. Stuart Dallas is also undergoing rehabilitation facing a similar injury which keeps him out for this fixture. Adam Foreshaw has a groin injury and is working to recover, though his potentiality is currently being assessed. Maximilian Wober will also be unable to make the trip with a thigh injury.

Match Prediction

Leeds United will have to get rid of their poor form in the past few weeks and show the glare they have had at the beginning of the season if they are to beat a resurgent Arsenal outfit. Although the possibility of that seems deafening as Arsenal will go all out to grab the Premier League silverware after a long wait of 19 years.

Prediction:  Arsenal 3-1 Leeds United.
