The centre-back is struggling to find gametime under Erik ten Hag.

Harry Maguire’s arrival at Manchester United made many fans question the move due to the high transfer fee. It took €87.00m to secure his signature, making him the most-expensive defender and the third-most-expensive arrival at the club. The price tag made people doubt the transfer and the general opinion was that he did not establish himself at a top club to demand such a cost.

While Harry Maguire was decent at Leicester City, the pressure of playing for Manchester United was far more significant. Since his arrival at the club four years ago, the defender has made 166 appearances in all competitions. However, the 2022-23 season saw him lose the starting place in the lineup despite being the club captain.

Erik ten Hag clearly trusts the defensive partnership of Rafael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Harry Maguire is spending the season withering away on the bench which is bringing down his value as a player. It will be for the best if the 30-year-old secures a move away from MUFC in the summer to find more gametime. Here are five clubs that should sign the defender:

Arsenal

Arsenal is an ideal destination for Harry Maguire. The club is challenging for the Premier League title and will likely secure UEFA Champions League qualification after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. In such a case, the club will aim to add more quality to the team.

Harry Maguire is a player that the club admires. His ball-carrying quality fits well with Mikel Arteta’s game plan. He will bring experience in defence and add depth to the centre-back position.

AS Roma

Jose Mournho’s reign at AS Roma is going well for the club as it won the UEFA Conference League last season. Former Premier League players like Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham have found a new lease of life over in the Italian Serie A. A defensive partnership between Harry Maguire and Smalling could prove to be fruitful for the Italian club.

Jose Mourinho has not worked with Harry Maguire but he is an exceptional manager who has worked against him. AS Roma plays with a three-man defence and Harry Maguire’s confidence with the ball and distribution would be a significant advantage.

AC Milan

AC Milan has previously bet on an English defender which worked wonders for them. Fikayo Tomori was essential in helping the club win an iconic Serie A in 2021-22. Harry Maguire could forge a brilliant partnership with his fellow countrymen in the heart of Rossoneri’s defence.

There is a 20-point gap between AC Milan and league leaders Napoli after 26 games in the 2022-23 season of Serie A. With their competitors strengthening their squads, AC Milan will need to add quality and Maguire could be a smart move to reinforce the defence.

Tottenham Hotspur

Another London-based club which should sign Harry Maguire is Tottenham Hotspur. Eric Dier and Christian Romero alongside Clement Lenglet are decent options at the club but they need someone that helps in the build-up play, particularly in a three-man defence.

The 30-year-old could be a brilliant addition to Conte’s side which is struggling to keep up with the competition for top-four places. Harry Maguire’s experience will bring stability in defence which sometimes lacks discipline and quality courtesy of Romero and Dier respectively. Furthermore, MUFC will look to move for Harry Kane in the summer and could sweeten the deal with Maguire moving to Spurs.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United has a war chest which they would aim to spend in order to add more world-class talent. Sven Botman was a brilliant addition to the squad and in order to go to that extra level, the club should move to sign Harry Maguire. Reaching the 2022-23 League Cup final is only a sign of things to come from the Premier League club with rich and ambitious owners.

The transfer makes sense on multiple fronts. Harry Maguire will get the desired gametime and be central to NUFC’s project. As for Manchester United, they will get the best offer from Newcastle United as the club will spend heavily if the opportunity arises.
