How Chelsea could lineup under Mauricio Pochettino next season
The Blues are set to appoint the Argentine manager following a brief round of interview process
After learning that Mauricio Pochettino would take over as Chelsea boss in June, Blues supporters have begun to anticipate what looks to be a thrilling 2023–24 campaign.
So how will Pochettino line up with Chelsea? What player(s) will the club sign this summer? In the summer, who will the club sell?
Here we take a look at how Chelsea could lineup under their new manager next season:
GK: Diogo Costa
Since Edouard Mendy's fitness fears started to mount, the Blues have been in desperate need of an improvement between the pipes. Diogo Costa is the greatest custodian presently competing outside of Europe's top leagues (sorry Liga Portugal), and even though he will set you back big cash, the purchase is worthwhile.
RB: Reece James
James has had a rollercoaster season, but when he's on, he's among the world's greatest. A manager who made Kyle Walker become one of the finest full-backs of his generation should be able to make a player like James flourish. The right back is currently ranked out of the ongoing campaign due to injury.
CB: Wesley Fofana
After a poor start to his Chelsea career, Fofana picked up an injury and remained sidelined for the majority of the season but the French centre-back has cemented his position as the Blues' defence's future as one of the few shining lights for Chelsea in recent weeks.
CB: Thiago Silva
One of the top centre-back in the Premier League at age 38. Thiago Silva is expected to begin for Pochettino when he is well. One of Chelsea's few shining lights recently, he maintained his position as the Blues' defence's starting centre-back.
LB: Ben Chilwell
Chelsea supporters may anticipate Chilwell's performance to increase tenfold under Poch, much like James on the other wing did. When healthy, Chilwell is a top-tier left-back who can contribute greatly to the team and even amalgamate with an attacker on the left flank.
CDM: N'Golo Kante
Kante missed 90% of the previous season due to injury, but if he can stay healthy, which is a huge "if". If the French midfielder can stay fit, he will be essential to Pochettino's Chelsea style of play. He has not yet extended his contract, which is due to expire at the end of the current campaign. Pochettino will be happy to keep Kante since he can play sweeper for your team.
CM: Enzo Fernandez
Because Chelsea have been a complete disaster, we haven't yet seen the best of the British record signing. Once Stamford Bridge has a defined tactical strategy in place, Enzo should play much, much better. The 22-year-old helped Argentina win World Cup and will certainly be world well under the Argentine manager as both will have smooth communication with each other.
AM: Mason Mount
Mason Mount's situation at Chelsea is the subject of several rumours, but if Pochettino is appointed manager, Mount will be inclined to sign a new deal with the team. Simply said, Mount is the ideal Pochettino midfielder, equally inventive and aggressive.
RW: Christopher Nkunku
Did you not remember he was visiting Chelsea? Fear not; everyone did. And yet, he might prove to be the ideal Son Heung-min-style wide winger who can score goals and climb the ladder under Poch. Even if Chelsea once again fails to sign any striker next season, Nkunku can operate as a striker given his excellent exploits in front of the goal.
LW: Mykhailo Mudryk
The starting XI for the next season will include the Ukrainian. It will be interesting to see if he has the potential to be successful at Chelsea. And given that Pochettino has experience assisting young people in realising their potential—he helped Son, Dele Ali, and Kane become devastating goal scorers, for example—players like Mudryk and Noni Madueke should be eager to develop their skills with him.
ST: Victor Osimhen
Chelsea are in desperate need of a new striker. Few strikers in the world of football possess greater potential than Victor Osimhen. Chelsea needs a striker of Osimhen's level if they are to contend in the coming season. And Pochettino will undoubtedly assist the Nigerian in the Premier League, just as he enabled Kane in becoming adroit at scoring goals there.
