These tacticians failed to make their mark with the Blues

One of the top teams in both England and Europe is Chelsea. Particularly since Roman Abramovich took over the company in the early 2000s, they have fashioned out a place for themselves.

Only three teams, including the Blues, have won at least five Premier League championships. They are one of just three English clubs, along with Manchester United (3), Liverpool (6), and Nottingham Forest (2), to have won the UEFA Champions League more than once last year.

But, they also experienced some setbacks when they hired managers who were unable to lead them to their heyday. Here are five managers that had Chelsea's lowest points per game in Premier League (minimum 20 matches in charge):

1.67 - Frank Lampard

Under Frank Lampard, it was truly a whirlwind for Chelsea.

The returning club great guided a young Chelsea team through some incredible highs and terrible lows, but in the end, the stats speak for themselves. No Chelsea manager has done worse in terms of points per game than Lampard.

Lampard, in contrast to the others, does at least have time to attempt to make things better. Although he has expressed a desire to make progress in the future, it is unclear whether he will have the time.

1.65 - Ruud Gullit

When the first wave of international players arrived in the Premier League in the middle of the 1990s, the league underwent a revolutionary change, and player managers were still very much in vogue.

While Gullit had no prior management experience, he had a tremendously successful career with both AC Milan and the Netherlands, and the Chelsea supporters got their desire when he was named manager in 1996.

The good vibes didn't last long, though, as Gullit was fired when the club's board of directors disagreed with him the following season, departing Stamford Bridge with just an average of 1.65 points per game.

1.28 - Ian Porterfield

Expectations were low for Chelsea when the Premier League was first introduced in 1992–1993 since the team had placed last in each of the previous two seasons. Porterfield departed Chelsea with the west Londoners ending the inaugural Premier League season in 11th place, averaging just 1.28 points per game.

1.27 - Glenn Hoddle

Glenn Hoddle, statistically speaking, was the worst Chelsea manager in Premier League history, averaging just 1.27 points per game throughout his three-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Under Hoddle's rule, Chelsea became a successful cup team. In his first season, Hoddle led Chelsea to the 1994 FA Cup final, and the following year, the club advanced to the Cup Winners' Cup quarterfinals.

Whilst Gullit and other famous players were reportedly lured to Stamford Bridge as a result of his recruitment, it was his appealing brand of football that ultimately led to his selection as England manager.

1.27 - Graham Potter

Graham Potter departs Chelsea with the joint-worst points-per-game performance of any manager who has overseen more than 20 Premier League games for Chelsea. On Sunday night, Chelsea decided to fire Graham Potter as their head coach.

Following the Blues' 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at home, which caused them to drop into the bottom half of the Premier League standings, Potter announced his departure. Glenn Hoddle, who also averaged 1.27 points per game, also exits with the same number.
