Football this week will witness many crucial matches with clubs around Europe back in action

A crucial slate of Premier League, Serie A, and LaLiga games over the next few days has some big midweek football matches at both ends of the standings.

Football will restart in the middle of April, and the midweek games will be exciting for fans to watch. Manchester City and Arsenal's matchup, for example, might end both teams' title aspirations.

The Serie A titans Juventus and Inter Milan will square off, as Real and Barcelona will play their respective matches in LaLiga. While Manchester United will go to North London hoping to bolster their top-four position.

Here are the Top midweek football matches to watch out for this week:

6. Girona vs Real Madrid

Lack of consistency over the duration of their season, Girona are now ranked eleventh in the La Liga rankings. The Catalan team lost to Real Valladolid by a score of 1-0 during the weekend, and they will need to win this game.

Real Madrid, on the contrary hand, are now in second place in the league rankings and has been strong lately. In their last game, Los Blancos easily defeated Celta Vigo by a score of 2-0, and they'll want to repeat that feat this week.

5. Rayo Vallecano vs Barcelona

However, with only one point dividing them from Osasuna in eighth place, Rayo are still on track to surpass their 12th-place finish from the previous season and either equal or beat their best-ever La Liga rank of eighth place attained in the 2012–13 campaign. Los Franjirrojos will be confident of winning on Wednesday since they haven't lost in their past three encounters with Barcelona, including two 1-0 victories last season and a scoreless draw at Camp Nou in August.

Barcelona's narrow 1-0 home win against Atletico Madrid last weekend stopped a three-game losing streak without a goal in all competitions.

On the stroke of halftime, Ferran Torres netted his first goal at Camp Nou after October and the game's sole goal to enable the Catalan giants to record their 24th La Liga victory of the season, their most in the top level after 30 games since 2015-16.

4. West Ham vs Liverpool

In the Premier League rankings, West Ham United are presently in 13th place and have not played well this year. The Hammers destroyed Bournemouth 4-0 in their previous match, and they will have to put in a lot of effort to repeat that performance this week.

Liverpool, on the opposite, have been unreliable lately and is now in seventh position in the league rankings. The Merseyside team narrowly defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the weekend and are eager to improve in this contest.

3. Inter Milan vs Juventus

Juventus are now fourth in Serie A and has steadily improved during its span of the campaign. The Bianconeri's last game ended in an unexpected 2-1 loss to Genoa, and they will need to win this week.

The second-placed Inter Milan, on the other hand, have a key month of games ahead of them. The Nerazzurri easily defeated Empoli 4-2 over the weekend, and they'll aim for a similar outcome in this game. The giants however meet in the Coppa Italia 2022-23 semi final.

2. Tottenham vs Manchester United

The Lilywhites travel to the capital to play Premier League top-four rivals Manchester United on Thursday night after another hilariously disastrous couple of weeks at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Newcastle United beat the hosts 6-1 on Sunday, and as a result, Cristian Stellini was fired. However, the Red Devils broke Brighton & Hove Albion's hearts on penalties to advance to an all-Manchester FA Cup final.

1. Manchester City vs Arsenal

On Wednesday, two teams known for their quick-paced offensive style will square off at the Etihad Stadium with the Gunners leading the standings by five points after a pair of additional matches played.

Despite three straight draws, two of that saw Mikel Arteta's team dominate by two goals away from home until an unexpected double against bottom-club Southampton was necessary on Friday night, the team's impetus has been sapped.

Meanwhile, City have a six-game streak of victories in the league and has surely guaranteed their advancement in both Cup and European play. Fans could not be blamed for thinking Arteta, the master's pupil, would be the next to be put out of his title chances after Pep Guardiola mercilessly put out a number of promising teams' title dreams in recent years.
