Watch: Ligue 1 referee Benoit Millot gets mic'd up for Lyon vs Nantes clash and the conversations are fascinating

This is what referees really say to footballers during a game
The referee in association football is in charge of interpreting and implementing the Laws of the Game while a game is in progress. The referee is an official with the power to initiate and discontinue play as well as take punishment against coaches and players during a contest. He or she is also the final decision-maker on all facts related to play.
At the majority of levels of play, two extra referees (formerly known as linesmen) help the referee by providing information on when the ball exits the playing area and any violations of the Rules of the Game that take place outside of the referee's field of sight. The referee, who has the power to disregard an assistant referee, gets the last say in any factual determination.
A fourth official who oversees the teams' technical tasks and helps the official in charge with administrative responsibilities may also assist the supervisor at more advanced levels of play. At the very highest levels of play, additional assistant referees and/or video assistant officials may also be used. Its member country bodies issue licences and provide training for referees and other game professionals.
During a game, officials actually say these things to football players: An intriguing view from Ligue 1 clash between Lyon and Nantes was captured in a video of the referee Benoit Millot conversing with players and mediating disputes.
Take a look below at the conversation between Ligue 1 referee Benoit Millot and players, managers and a referee in the games
"Guys, some duels are becoming more intense."
"We need to be more careful during the duels and right after. Mr Jaoa You have already received a yellow card; don't take any chances with this kind of stuff. "
"Don't take a risk, be clever. Be clever. I totally agree with you on that. But giving him another yellow card, that's not fair."
"That's what I did. Did you see me do it? No? You didn't see me do it? We are down the stretch now, guys. Let's go, Mathieu, Florian, Antonine, everyone."
"Everything needs to be perfect. We have to be prepared in case of a crucial decision in the game. I'm just trying to hurry up so we can resume."
"Congratulations."
"Well done."
"Mr Mendes, congratulations"
"At the end of the game, we can still have a nice exchange."
"We don't agree, but as long as the exchange is respectful, we are ok."
"Overall, I don't feel that refereeing is central to the game, and that's the main thing."
