Erling Haaland becomes first player to win Premier League young player and Year of the award

Erling Haaland, a standout for Manchester City, picked up the Premier League Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year honours for the 2022-23 season.

Phil Foden previously claimed the young player award before Haaland, while Kevin De Bruyne received it in 2019–20, 2021–22, and 2020–21.

Haaland has had an incredible first season at City, scoring 52 goals across every competition. Before they are ready to take on Manchester United in the FA Cup final and Inter Milan in the Champions League final, City are going to attempt to clinch a historic triple after winning the trophies.

The Norwegian has 52 goals across tournaments as City inches closer to a triple. He was selected as the football writers' player of the year this week.

Following his monumental season with City, Haaldn is two trophies away from winning a treble with City. The 22-year-old shared his thoughts after winning the Premier League Player of the Month.

“I am honoured to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season – thank you to everyone who voted for me," said Haaland in a City statement.

“It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me."

“These awards would not have been possible without my amazing teammates, the manager and all of the staff at the club who help me perform on the pitch,"
