The captain picks will play an immense role as the race for the FPL champion goes down the wire.

Premier League is close to reaching the end of its 2022-23 season. Two rounds of matches remain as the teams battle it out for points in order to avoid relegation, win the league or secure European qualification. Parallel to the Premier League, the Fantasy Premier League competition is also in its business end.

The heavily popular fantasy football game has a huge fan following and the managers are aiming for a strong finish. In order to win their private or public leagues, FPL managers will think long and hard while choosing their captain for the upcoming game week.

As the captaincy chip doubles the points of a particular player, it can be a massive difference-maker in collecting points and rising in the rankings. As the game week 37 of the Premier League approaches, here is a look at the top five captain picks for it:

Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan is in fabulous form for Manchester City. The midfielder scored 13 points against Leeds United and 19 points against Everton in-game weeks 35 and 36 respectively.

Manchester City have a double game week where they play Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion. If the midfielder continues his form, then choosing him as a captain may be a genius move.

Kaoru Mitoma

It is a double game week for Brighton & Hove Albion as well during the 37th game week. The Japanese international has seven goals and eight assists in the 2022-23 campaign with three matches to go.

He has 128 points in Fantasy Premier League, fourth highest in Brighton’s squad. The winger is constantly a threat and loves to create scoring opportunities. One of the two games for Mitoma is against Southampton, the club which is already relegated and could concede a lot of goals.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah’s form is the driving force behind Liverpool’s strong results of late. As the Reds push for a UEFA Champions League qualification spot, the Egyptian international is banking huge amounts of points in FPL.

In his last three game weeks, Salah has scored 11, 10 and 12 points respectively. He was a popular captain’s pick in game week 36 as well and several FPL managers will continue to put their faith in the LFC midfielder.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane is performing well individually despite Tottenham Hotspur’s dismal form in the Premier League. He has 240 points in FPL with two matches to go and is the nearest to Haaland who leads the rest.

Tottenham Hotspur face Brentford in their upcoming match and Kane will hope to continue his four-game streak of returning an attacking contribution (goal or assist). When it comes to ownership, 29% of FPL managers have Kane in their squad and he will be a popular choice for the captain’s chip.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is the outright leader in terms of total points in FPL with 266 points. Manchester City have a double game week in GW 37 in which they play against a struggling Chelsea and a high-flying Brighton. The striker has 36 goals and eight assists in the league and is set to run away with the golden boot.

Erling Haaland scored a goal in MCFC’s last PL outing against Everton FC. It is safe to say that Haaland will be a safe choice when it comes to choosing a captain as chances are that he will likely score a goal or make an assist.
