L'Equipe reports that Lionel Messi did not receive approval from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to travel to Saudi Arabia. Recently, the Argentinean took a plane to the Middle Eastern nation to carry out his obligations as the nation's brand ambassador.
The Parisians had just suffered a shocking 3-1 Ligue 1 home loss to Lorient, so his journey came at the wrong moment. Messi has so received criticism for his behaviour.
According to the L'Equipe story, Nasser Al-Khelaifi took matters into his own hands and sanctioned Lionel Messi. It is uncertain if he will get a fine or if the sentence will be made public.
The future of Messi at PSG are already uncertain. The Argentine is now nearing the end of his contract and has not yet agreed to a new one. It is unclear whether the new event will have any impact on his career.
Lionel Messi has received flak for his actions frequently since joining PSG. Messi has certainly delivered the goods, as seen by his 31 goals and 34 assists over the course of almost two seasons.
Nevertheless, according to journalist Gaston Edul, L'Equipe's coverage of the Argentine brilliant was rude and disrespectful.
This season, Messi seemed to be in excellent shape. He has contributed 20 goals and 19 assists to Christophe Galtier's club so far this season in 37 appearances across all competitions.
It is also known that Lionel Messi's punishment is a two-week suspension from all activities, including training and receiving a salary.
The 35-year-old is prepared to join Barcelona, but the club's financial issues may prevent the 2022 World Cup champion from joining his former team. It will be interesting to watch how things turn out in the next season.
