Early Life and Beginnings in Football
Meet Oscar Cortes, a 19-year-old youngster who has been turning heads in Europe and particularly Colombia. He was born in the city of Tumaco in Colombia and plays in the Colombian first division for Millonarios FC, he has showcased his playing style, and attacking mindset; he has caught the attention of many football fans around the world. With his performances for Millonarios FC, the Copa Libertadores, and the Colombian U-20s national team, there is no surprise that this kid has a bright future.
Millonarios are a Colombian professional football club based in Bogota that currently plays in the Categoria Primera A, top-flight football in Colombia. It is considered a successful and iconic club in Colombia, making it one of the most important in South America.
Player History
From a tender age, Cortes was drawn to the beautiful game of football and joined Millonarios FC academy, a club that has produced numerous young football talents.
After showing progress in the youth ranks, Cortes got his break in 2022 when he made his first appearance and signed his professional contract in that same year. Since then, he has been an integral part of his club, scoring goals and providing assists.
His talent was recognized more after he represented Colombia both at the U19 and U20 levels displaying impressive performances. At the 2023 South American Youth Championship, he was a standout performer for his country, helping them secure the third position behind the South American giants Brazil and Uruguay.
Playing Style
The right-footed attacker can play on either of the wings and centrally hold that diamond shape. But his preferred position is the right wing and which suits his style of play; his agility and the ability to go, past defenders, are exceptional qualities that he possesses. He still needs to develop his game and become a more consistent player.
His style of play is similar to players like Bernando Silva, and Hakim Ziyech who like to cut in from the wing, play passes breaking the defenses, and have the ability to score bangers from a distance. Oscar Cortes can fill the shoes of these players, and eventually turn into another star coming from Colombia after James Rodriguez who has been exceptional in his career playing both internationally and at the domestic level.
Oscar Cortes’s rise to prominence has been remarkable and his future in this game looks bright. His talent and potential have caught the eyes of some of the elite clubs around the world.
