Barcelona star Pedri ruled out for final three matches of the season
The 20-year-old midfield sensation won his first league title
LaLiga champions Barcelona will end their season without their young midfield general, Pedri. The youngster missed Barca's last game due to discomfort. According to reports, the management has decided to give him rest for the remaining three matches and keep him fresh for the next season. They don't want to take any further risks and have taken precautionary measures.
Pedri made the switch to Barcelona from Las Palmas back in 2019. He made his debut for Barcelona in the 2020-21 season. Since making his debut, Pedri has caught the eye of many. He has commanded the midfield for Barcelona, and that has even earned him a few international calls at such a young age. The 20-year-old even represented his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In his debut season, Pedri played 52 games for the Catalan giants in all competitions. He scored four goals and assisted six times. Pedri won the Copa del Rey in his first season at the club. Last season, injuries limited his time on the field. Pedri only played 23 games but impressed everyone by scoring seven goals. He only assisted once in the 2021-22 season.
This season, Pedri took Barcelona to LaLiga glory. He made 35 appearances under Xavi and has the same numbers in front of the goal as last season. Once again, Pedri's gametime was limited due to an injury. The youngster missed two months of football. On his return from injury, Pedri made just five appearances for the club.
Barcelona have decided to give him a rest and will depend on their other midfielders to take command in the remaining matches. Gavi, De Jong, Busquests, Kessie, Sergi Roberto, and Pablo Torre are all fit. They will be eyeing maximum minutes on the pitch. As for Pedri, the youngster will now look to focus on more silverware in the 2023-24 season.
