Alejandro Garnacho could become next player to inherit no. 7 shirt at Manchester United

Since Ronaldo left, no player has worn the No. 7 at Old Trafford.
The strongest indication yet from Manchester United is that Alejandro Garnacho could receive a new team number for the upcoming season.
Some jersey numbers have such significance because legendary players have worn them in the past, and the subsequent generation of players who receive the same number are expected to achieve the same level of objectives as the former player.
On Tuesday morning, they formally unveiled the brand new jersey for the 2023–24 campaign. The Adidas-made uniform honours Manchester's industrial past with geometric patterns that are modelled after the Lancashire rose and the structure that spans over the River Irwell.
The predominantly red shirt has a crewneck collar with black, white, and red stripes, the Adidas three-stripe logo in black, and black piping on both sides. It includes black socks with white and black stripes on the top and white shorts.
The uniform is currently available for purchase, and fans may personalise the back of the shirt by adding their preferred player's name and jersey number.
The fact that 'Garnacho 49' is not yet a pre-loaded option for fans to choose from suggests that he might not be donning the number 49 in the upcoming season.
The new shirt respects Manchester and Salford with a graphic that includes the Lancashire Rose and the recognisable bridge over the River Irwell from the height of the Industrial Revolution.
In a preseason match versus Leeds, the classic red shirt, white shorts, and black socks will be donned for the first time.
If Manchester United were to give fans the opportunity to choose "Garnacho 49" and the player was later given a new number, United would probably have to pay back those supporters who had bought an Alejandro Garnacho shirt with 49 on it.
